ROGERS — Fred Taylor of this city has a drove of pigeons that have a mania for “setting,” and Mr. Taylor, seeing a chance to hatch some early chicks, took advantage of the situation and placed two hen eggs under each pigeon. The result is that he now has several young chicks with pigeon mothers. 50 YEARS AGO

March 2, 1962

The Little Rock School Board again warned school principals to use surpluses in activity funds to buy books for the school libraries — or the school board will use 75 per cent of the activity fund to do it for them. The board members also said last night at the regular monthly meeting that they preferred a downtown site for their new administra­tion building if one can be located — and accepted for filing a letter from several central administra­tive staff employees outlining and expressing a preference for “advantages” of having the offices located outside and west of the downtown

In a seven-page message to legislator­s last week, the North Little Rock School District bluntly said it did not want to have anything to do with any of the four consolidat­ion bills pending in the Legislatur­e. FAYETTEVIL­LE — Nolan Richardson is leaving the University of Arkansas basketball program he took to national prominence over 17 years, but he’s not going out on his terms and he might not go quietly. The university fired Richardson, and will pay him up to $3 million, the university announced Friday. A source told The Associated Press that Richardson might sue for more money. Arkansas officials gave Richardson, 60, the opportunit­y to retire after he expressed publicly last Saturday and privately that he wanted his contract to be bought out, the news release said.
