Offense hits on all cylinders
FAYETTEVILLE — Tyler Wilson and Arkansas’ firstteam offense came out in attack mode in Tuesday night’s scrimmage, a 42-yard pass to Cobi Hamilton on the first snap setting the stage for a huge performance.
The Razorbacks averaged 11.8 yards per pass, including five completions of 20-plus yards against a defense that was missing two starting linebackers and safety Eric Bennett.
“I thought we did a lot of good things offensively,” Wilson said. “A lot of room for improvement, obviously, but I thought we did pretty good for the first scrimmage.”
Offensive coordinator Paul Petrino said he was “very happy” and saw encouraging signs.
“We threw the ball real well, had a bunch of completions,” he said. “I thought the quarterbacks did a good job of getting to the right protections, changing the plays.”
The Razorbacks starters scored three touchdowns and one field goal on their four possessions, piling up 233 total yards on 24 snaps for an average of 9.7 yards per play.
“What’s awesome for us is we’re going against that offense every day,” defensive coordinator Paul Haynes said. “We can only get better.
“That’s the best quarterback in the country. We’ve got the best wide receiver in the country, got the best tight end in the country. Going against those guys daily, our guys are going to get better.”
