By a thousand nibbles
In his constant cheerleading for Obamacare and Medicaid expansion, John Brummett mentions how an uninsured person now is treated at the hospital and the hospital has to eat the cost and therefore passes the cost to the rest of us. (Just a little aside, by making this observation he admits that no one is without medical care in Arkansas, even if it is inefficient.) He goes on to imply that if we ignorant Arkansans will just accept this socialist medical system, we won’t have to pay for these uninsured people; the federal government will pick up the tab.
It is this type of thinking that has our nation on the brink of collapse. Brummett’s attitude is that if we refuse this federal help, it will be such a minuscule amount in comparison to the federal debt that it will be inconsequential. It is seldom the big expenses that sink us. It is the thousands of little inconsequential expenses that add up.
It is always frustrating to me for liberal government believers to tell us that if we don’t accept higher taxes and more government there will be no fire or police, old folks will be cast out and we will plunge into chaos. They never mention not paying for Luther Ray’s gunshot wound received while robbing that liquor store, or not paying the hospital bill for the irresponsible unwed mother of six children. The bottom line is we as a culture have become immoral to the point that decency and responsibility are viewed as backward and the expectation of morality and decency is viewed as intolerant. God help us. A.L. RODGERS
