Chamber orchestra
Robert Kolt, visiting assistant professor of music at Ouachita Baptist University, is holding auditions toward forming a community-based chamber orchestra (strings, winds, timpani and continuo) in Arkadelphia to perform primarily small-orchestra literature of the 17th-19th centuries.
The ensemble will rehearse one night a week (day to be determined); Kolt said the number of concerts it would perform would depend on the proficiency level of the players, and might eventually schedule concerts outside Arkadelphia.
The ensemble will not be an “official” ensemble of the university, nor will it receive university funding, although it will use the university’s rehearsal facilities and be able to hold concerts in one or more of the university’s venues.
Players will receive no academic credit for joining the orchestra and pay no tuition. All area musicians are welcome, especially experienced string players and harpsichordists. Call Kolt at (870) 245-5272 or e-mail koltr@obu.edu.
