NOTES Both teams have new general managers, new coaches and lots of new faces. Kansas City, entering its first season under former Eagles Coach Andy Reid, has 30 new players. Jacksonvil­le, under first-year coach Gus Bradley, has 26 new players. … Both teams were very active in the last week, with each claiming seven players off waivers following final roster cuts. … The teams also selected first (Kansas City) and second (Jacksonvil­le) in the NFL draft, with each choosing an offensive tackle in the opening round. The Chiefs picked Central Michigan’s Eric Fisher, and then the Jaguars took Texas A&M’s Luke Joeckel, who vowed to “prove Kansas City wrong” for not taking him No. 1 overall. Both played left tackle in college, but moved to the other side as rookies. … QB Alex Smith, who spent his first eight seasons in San Francisco, makes start for the Chiefs.

The most recent victory was at New York to start last season. … The Cowboys are opening the season at home for the first time since 2007, when they beat the Giants 45-35. Dallas was the No. 1 seed in the NFC that season with a 13-3 record but lost its playoff opener to the Giants at home. … With the retirement of Tampa Bay defensive back Ronde Barber and New York Jets offensive lineman Brandon Moore, Eli Manning now has the second-longest active streak of consecutiv­e starts at 135. Washington linebacker London Fletcher leads at 199. Manning’s streak is the third-longest for a quarterbac­k, one spot behind his brother, Peyton Manning, who started 208 consecutiv­e for Indianapol­is in 1998-2010.
