Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
State could be the key
Only one of the men seeking to be our senator will be elected and one, if elected, could possibly keep the balance of power in the Senate for a Democrat majority. I believe two columnists printed in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette offer some enlightenment on this very important election.
In a recent column, Dana D. Kelley wrote, “With most consumers, overtly negative and deliberately misleading advertising would backfire. It’s simply not considered to be the American way of competition. But in politics, voters seem to shrug and accept it. … Mark Pryor is, by national standards, hardly an iconic liberal and Obama banner-bearer. And Tom Cotton isn’t the raving radical he’s painted to be, either.”
Charles Krauthammer, also printed in the Democrat-Gazette, made the following comments recently: “The Democratic line is that the Republican House does nothing but block and oppose. In fact, it has passed hundreds of bills only to have them die on reaching the desk of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. He has rendered the Senate inert by simply ensuring that any bill that might present a politically difficult vote for his Democratic colleagues never even comes to the floor.”
I think both of our main candidates for Senate are outstanding men who would represent Arkansas well, but only one can help change the Senate majority leader to someone who will get the legislative process moving again.
I believe changing the makeup of the Senate is the most important issue of this election. Arkansas could hold the key to make this happen. Please cast your vote for Tom Cotton. HOMER FELTNER
