Curb cell-phone use

-

A commonly discussed topic in school is the use of cell phones. Many people think cell phones have a negative impact on students’ learning. Cell phones distract the student, allow them the ability to cheat, and even pose the risk of having their phone stolen. This is why I believe cell phones should not be allowed in school.

When students are permitted the ability to access their phones during class, it gives most of them a major distraction. I don’t even need to mention how much of a distraction social media can be. Instead of focusing on their task at hand or what their teacher is saying, they are more focused on how many likes their picture just achieved, so why allow them?

Another disadvantage of having cell phones in class is that is produces the opportunity for the student to cheat. With a simple touch of a button the student could send a quick text message to another about an answer. With the Web also available, students can search for the answer online.

The third drawback of having phones accessible in school is the risk of them being stolen. A student could be more of a target than another when he or she has the latest phone. It is better to just forbid the use of phones in school so this doesn’t happen.

I believe allowing cell phones in school is an all-around bad idea. Let’s stop the use of them now. LUKE WELCH
