Bring the band

-

Georgia’s contract with Southern University for Saturday’s game at Sanford Stadium included an interesting clause.

In addition to paying Southern a guarantee of $650,000, Georgia’s contract states the visiting team’s band must perform at halftime.

“Normally a stipulation for visiting band attendance is not included in game contracts,” Georgia associate athletic director Claude Felton said, according to ESPN.com “However, the Southern University band is nationally known for its performing excellence and will provide a unique entertainment experience for our fans.”

So even if the Bulldogs are winning big after the first half, fans will have a reason to stick around a little longer to watch Southern’s band that is billed as “The Human Jukebox.”

Nathan Haymer, Southern’s band director, said his group will put on a show.

“Even though we’re known around the nation for being the best, I still think we’re probably the best-kept secret,” Haymer told ESPN. com. “I really don’t think Georgia understands what’s coming to them because they’re focused on the football game.

“I’m not going to be politically correct. It’s not going to be much of a game, but halftime is where the action is going to be. We’re going to do some different things like that to just amaze the crowd, where they say, ‘How did they do that?’ ”
