LR CHRISTIAN 62, FARMINGTON 20

LITTLE ROCK — Damarea Crockett was not going to be denied on Friday night.

The Little Rock Christian senior running back lifted the Warriors in their 5A-West Conference opener against Farmington, rushing for 229 yards and 4 touchdowns on 15 carries in a 62-20 rout of the Cardinals at Warrior Field.

Crockett, who has orally committed to Boise State University, scored on runs of 23, 73, 3 and 1 yards. He also caught a 3-yard touchdown pass.

“I just wanted to run hard every play,” Crockett said. “We just had to keep on fighting.”

Farmington cut the lead to 21-20 with 4 minutes, 29 seconds left in the first half, but Little Rock Christian responded with two touchdowns in the final 4:29 to take a 35-20 lead at halftime.

Crockett scored from three yards out to make it 28-20. After Farmington was stopped on downs, Sanders threw a 31-yard jump pass to Isaiah Harper for a 35-20 advantage.

“We played well in the first half, but we didn’t show up in the second half at all,” Farmington coach Mike Adams said. “We didn’t do a good job of tackling No. 16 [ Crockett]. They’re a real good football team. They’re going to do well.”

It was all Warriors from there, as they added three more scores to invoke the Arkansas Activities Association’s sportsmanship rule. Hampton’s 39-yard run and Crockett’s 1-yard run made it 48-20 in the third quarter before Sanders threw a 3-yard pass to Crockett to increase the lead to 55-20.

Trevor Ward’s 2-yard run capped the scoring at 62-20 with just over three minutes left.

Sanders completed 17 of 25 passes for 162 yards with 2 touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Little Rock Christian drove 57 yards on 9 plays on its opening drive as Crockett capped the drive with a 23-yard touchdown run, eluding two defenders to reach the end zone to help the Warriors take a 7-0 lead.

Farmington responded with Brice Waggle’s 52-yard touchdown pass to Nick Huff, tying the game at 7-7 with 7:04 left in the first quarter.

After the Warriors stopped the Cardinals on fourth down at the Farmington 27, Crockett ran 73 yards for his second touchdown of the quarter to give the Warriors a 14-7 lead.

But the Cardinals tied the game at 14-14 with 10:14 left in the half when Hobbs threw an 11-yard halfback pass to wide receiver Xavier Staten.

The Warriors came right back, as Crockett’s 57-yard run set up Sanders’ 10-yard touchdown run to make it 2114 with 9:48 left in the second quarter.

Hobbs capped Farmington’s 11- play, 70-yard drive that was extended by a running into the punter penalty with a 3-yard scoring run, but the Cardinals couldn’t convert on the two-point attempt, leaving the score at 2120 with 4:29 left.

“It didn’t start during the season. It was the offseason we went through,” Crockett said. “We got bigger, we got faster and we got in condition. We’ve got an explosive offense. We’re doing things the right way.”
