KWON NAMED AMONG TOP 40 UNDER 40 IN NORTHWEST ARKANSAS

Dr. Yong Kwon, fellowship trained bariatric and general surgeon with Roller Weight Loss and Advanced Surgery, was recently named one of the top 40 professionals under the age of 40 in Northwest Arkansas by the Arkansas Business Journal.

Kwon has been in Northwest Arkansas since 2011 after completing his medical degree, surgical residency and fellowship training in bariatric surgery at the University of Washington. Since then, he has done nearly 1,000 weight loss surgeries.

“The momentum in our practice has really picked up and that growth I believe has a lot to do with the reputation Roller Weight Loss and Advanced Surgery has earned,” Kwon said. He derives tremendous gratification from his work as a general and bariatric surgeon.

“Every day, I get to go to work and with one surgery, I am able to help another person with a deep reaching impact because weight loss surgery not only helps the patient but their family members and extended family as well,” Kwon explains. “One surgery takes care of diabetes, joint pain, elevated blood pressure and cholesterol levels and sleep apnea which leads to early death so I find my work most rewarding.”

Kwon credits his wife Jessica with settling in Northwest Arkansas. “Her family lives in Alabama so coming to Arkansas from Seattle brought us closer to them. Although I had my doubts at first, I absolutely love Northwest Arkansas,” Kwon said. “I was so impressed by how pleasant, livable, private and hassle free living here is compared to our lives in Seattle. People here are friendly, everything is convenient and the schools are great!”

Kwon also did his research and found that Arkansas boasts having the third highest “Body Mass Index” of all states in the country. “It’s a place where I can do a lot of good with the skills learned through all the training.” Kwon and his wife have a two year old son, Eli, and a second son due in November.
