GRAVETTE 49, LINCOLN 21

GRAVETTE — Gravette quarterback Bryce Moorman threw four touchdown passes — including three in the second half — as the Lions whipped Lincoln 49-21 Friday night at Lions Stadium.

“We knew going in (Gravette) was a good football team,” Lincoln coach Don Harrison said. “Coach ( Bill) Harrelson does an awesome job with his kids. We played hard and the kids had a good attitude. We’re going in the right direction.”

Harrison added that he expects Gravette to finish first or second in conference.

Friday’s game was the 4A1 opener for both teams, and Gravette (3-1) was a model of efficiency in the first half. The Lions scored two touchdowns in the opening quarter in a span of two minutes.

On the second play from scrimmage, Gravette’s Brady Rolsma bolted 57 yards untouched into the end zone. The Lions defense forced Lincoln ( 1- 3) to punt, and following the return, Moorman connected with Rolsma for a 37-yard touchdown pass and a 14-0 lead.

Moorman completed 6 of 11 passes for 175 yards and four touchdowns while throwing one interception. Rolsma was on the receiving end of two of those touchdowns, snagging a 35-yard pass in the fourth quarter to go along with his earlier score.

The Lions got a solid effort from their running game as well. Jordan Burnett carried the ball 19 times for 175 yards and two touchdowns. Burnett had a 41-yard run in the second quarter through the heart of Lincoln’s defense.

Lincoln’s Harrison Swayne and Caleb Lloyd were involved in all of the Wolves’ touchdowns and combined for more than 300 yards of offense, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with Gravette. Harrison said getting the ball into the end zone is something he’ll be working on as the season progresses.

The Lions outscored Lincoln 28-7 in the second half as Gravette’s defense collected a handful of sacks and intercepted two passes.
