Heritage Baptist Church in Bella Vista, 501 Highlands Blvd., presents Daria and John Greening speaking Oct. 4 during the 10 a.m. Sunday school hour and at 11 a.m. during the worship service. They also speak at the Bible Conference of the Ozark Associatio­n of Regular Baptist Churches on Oct. 5-8 in Mammoth Spring.

John Greening currently services his 19th year as a national representa­tive of the General Associatio­n of the Regular Baptist Churches and holds a doctor of ministry degree from Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pa. With his wife, Greening has authored several books, with the most recent, Strong Church: Building and Measuring Mature Disciples, released in June. J St., hosts the fourth-annual local Friends of the Poor 5K run/walk at 6:30 a.m. Oct. 10. The event is sponsored locally by the St. Stephen Benevolent Conference in associatio­n with the national Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Donations are accepted as entry fees.

Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Hiwasse, 14070 AR-279, presents Chris Driesbach in concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 8. Driesbach is a former atheist, but now tells of his journey to faith through music. He composes original Christian songs and performs on guitar and keyboards.

Peace Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Rogers, 805 W. Olrich St., offers Way Out Wednesdays for students in grades 5 to 12. WOW meets from 3 to 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday. Bella Vista Christian Church, 103 Riordan Road, sponsors the Gathering, a men’s ministry, in its monthly meeting Tuesday at the Red Onion Cafe in Bentonvill­e. Matt Mooney from 99balloons. org, an organizati­on serving families with special needs children, speaks. A Rugged Faith men’s retreat is planned for Oct. 30-31 in Pea Ridge. Cost is $60.

First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive, presents its annual bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 3 in Becker Hall. Items for sale will include homemade decorative items for autumn and Christmas. Homemade cinnamon and orange rolls, as well as lunch items, will be available.

The Neighborho­od Church in Bentonvill­e, 2003 S.W. Regional Airport Road, plans a men’s retreat for Oct. 9-11 at Spring Valley Ranch in Eucha, Okla. Cost is $125 per person. A women’s “intreat” is set for Oct. 23-24. Cost is $40 per person.

Stringtown Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Gentry, 12444 Fairmont Road, holds its annual Fall Roundup Thursday to Oct. 3. Dick Stenbakken presents first-person narratives of Biblical characters touched by Jesus during three evening meetings and a Saturday worship service. The King’s Heralds sing during the meeting Friday and Saturday, with a full concert at 3 p.m. Saturday. In existence since 1927, the group is considered to be the oldest continuous gospel quartet in America.

Meetings begin at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Activities for Oct. 3 include a worship service at 10:45 a.m., a concert by the King’s Heralds at 3 p.m. and another meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Bella Vista Presbyteri­an Church, 1880 Forest Hills Blvd., sponsors a live auction presented by its Missions Committee at 1 p.m. today in the church fellowship hall. The auction benefits Cooper Elementary School and schools in the Gravette school district. Lunch will be served by donation starting at 11 a.m., and the auction begins at 1 p.m.

Auction items include new Napoleon barbecue grills, new outdoor furniture, new hand-crafted wood furniture, toys and more. Baked goods and other hand-crafted items also will be available for sale.

Unity Church of the Ozarks, 902 S.W. Second St., Bentonvill­e, sponsors its annual church picnic and service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Lake Avalon pavilion n Bella Vista. The church holds an emergency food drive this month for the Salvation Army. Donations of canned goods, beans, rice and boxed items can be brought to the church.

REGION

Strings Attached Ministries presents its fourth-annual Captivatin­g Heart women’s retreat Oct. 16-18 at New Life Ranch in Colcord, Okla. The retreat for women of all faiths from age 16 and older is inspired by the book Captivatin­g by Stasi and John Eldredge. Cost is $179, including all meals, the curriculum and boarding.

Holiday Island Community Church, 188 Stateline Dr. in Eureka Springs, presents Kara and Jonathan Story and Jonathan Chavez at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Stories both have toured the world in performanc­e, including a concert this summer in Austria. Kara, an adjunct professor of music at University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, also toured Greece as a guest artist with the Messiah Project Chorale. Jonathan serves as the organist of Central United Methodist Church in Fayettevil­le and pianist for the Singing Men of Arkansas.

Chavez, a graduate of Rogers High School and the University of Arkansas originally from Peru, has performed worldwide to raise funds for various humanitari­an projects.
