Misty Johnson, registered nurse, and Adela Martinez, licensed social worker, are breast health navigators at Washington Regional, serving as advocates for breast cancer patients and conducting continual assessment of the educationa­l, physical, psychologi­cal and social needs of the patient and family members.

Prior to joining Washington Regional, Johnson worked as a Susan G. Komen outreach coordinato­r at the University of Arkansas Health Center for three years. During her senior year on the UA campus, she interned with Dr. Michael Cross and earned both a bachelor of science in nursing and health science. For the past nine years, she has worked in both longterm care and psychiatri­c nursing. Johnson is sitting for the Harold P. Freeman Patient Navigation Institute certificat­ion test in November.

Before joining Washington Regional, Martinez had been an oncology social worker with Hope Cancer Resources for five years. Martinez has been a medical social worker for 15 years, with experience in skilled nursing facilities, spinal cord injury, and early interventi­on services. She graduated with a bachelor of arts in social work from the University of Arkansas.
