First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Fayetteville, 1755 E. Rolling Hills Dr., presents Laura Lapointe speaking on “The Way Out For You,” at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 11. Her presentation, including music, focuses on freedom from addiction, fear, stress and any other desperate situations.
Lapointe serves on the Christian Science Board of Lectureship and sings in a gospel choir. She holds a master’s degree of divinity.
First Church of Christ, Rogers, co-sponsors the event.

St. Raphael Catholic Church in Springdale, 1386 S. West End St., sponsors its annual Brewtober Chilifest from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 17. The chili cookoff and home-brewing competition features more than 50 chili recipes and 20 craft brews, and includes live music and a silent auction. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and only available to persons 21 years of age or older.

Temple Shalom of Northwest Arkansas in Fayetteville, 699 N. Sang Ave., hosts a presentation of the Abrahamic Faiths Panel at 7 p.m. Thursday. Rabbi Jacob Adler of the temple, the Rev. Phil Butin of First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville and Mahmet Ulupinar of the interfaith Dialogue Institute of the Southwest in Little Rock will discuss the perspectives of their individual faiths. Phillip Harrington, a Presbyterian elder, moderates. A reception follows.

Gather at the River in Elkins is a three-day autumn celebration sponsored by more than 20 church congregations in the city. The event runs Sunday to Tuesday, with a program at 6:30 p.m. each night in Bunch Park in Elkins. A nightly gathering at 6 p.m. features live music, free food and child care. In the event of rain, the event will be moved to the Elkins Community Center.
The Rev. Tom Letchworth, who has pastored churches in central Arkansas, shares his message through characters telling the story of Christ. Other members of the Elkins community will speak and provide music.
An offering will be taken each night, benefiting the senior center, Sunday; the teachers’ fund, Monday; and the police and fire fund, Tuesday. Information: 643-3140. St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tontitown, 154 E. Henri de Tonti Blvd., presents the Rev. Leo Patalinghug in a mission Oct. 17-19. Patalinghug is the host and founder of Grace Before Meals, a mission to strengthen families around the dinner table, and “Savoring Our Faith” on the EWTN. He defeated the chef in “Throw Down! Bobby Flay!”
Patalinghug will present a cooking demonstration at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 17, with the theme “Spicing Up Married Life.” Tickets, which include dinner, are $20 purchased in advance.
Patalinghug speaks on “Saints and Mary” at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 and the Lord’s Table at 7 p.m. Oct. 19. The Oct. 19 event follows the 6:30 Mass, and Adoration follows Patalinghug’s presentation.
