MEN TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE 94, HENDERSON STATE 80

Aaron Cooper scored a team-high 22 points in his season debut for Henderson State, but it wasn’t enough as the Reddies fell Saturday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphi­a.

Henderson trailed 78-58 with 8:45 left in the game, and the Reddies outscored Texas A&M-Commerce 13-3 to cut the lead to 81-71 with 5:17 left after a three-pointer from Tavian Pomlee. Kevin Kozan hit a three-pointer with 3:35 left, cutting the lead to 85-76, but Henderson State missed its final nine attempts from the floor.

Jeremy Jones led Texas A&M-Commerce with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor, including 4 of 5 from the three-point line. Kozan scored 19 points for Henderson State, while Ben Marello had 13 and Pomlee added 10.

ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO 80, CROWLEY’S RIDGE 68

Arkansas-Monticello outscored Crowley’s Ridge 25-4 midway through the first half to build a lead it would not relinquish at Steelman Field House in Monticello.

The Boll Weevils (3-6) trailed by eight points in the game’s first six minutes, but rebounded to take the lead with 10:50 left in the first half on a three-pointer by senior Richard Benedyth.

That set the stage for UAM’s run, giving them a 15-point lead with six minutes left in the first half. The Boll Weevils led 49-26 at halftime.

The Pioneers (5-7) outscored the Boll Weevils 10-0 in the second half to cut UAM’s lead to eight with 9:38 remaining, but the Boll Weevils responded rebuilt the lead to 14 after a layup from Evan Sims with 6:57 left.

Benedyth led Arkansas-Monticello with 16 points, Vicktor Arnick scored 15, while Sims and Jamal Peterson added 14 each. Jamarkus Lee of Crowley’s Ridge led all scorers with 24 points.

ARKANSAS TECH 74, FLORIDA TECH 73

Arkansas Tech blew a 16-point halftime lead, then fought back from a six-point second-half deficit for their sixth consecutiv­e victory at the Winter Classic hosted by Florida Tech in Melbourne, Fla.

The Wonder Boys (7-2) led 18-7 with 13:01 left in the first half, but the Panthers (9-3) cut the lead to 26-18 with 7:20 in the half. Arkansas Tech built a 35-21 lead with 5:02 remaining and led 43-27 at halftime.

Florida Tech outscored Arkansas Tech 26-10 in the first 10 minutes of the second half to tie the game at 53-53 with 9:53 left in the game. The Panthers stretched their lead to 61-55 with 7:07 remaining, but Arkansas Tech’s DeChriston McKinney scored the next seven points for the Wonder Boys, who cut the lead to 63-62 with 4:42 left. McKinney scored on two baskets inside the lane and hit 3 of 4 free throws.

Bryson Fletcher tied the game at 68-68 with 2:09 left after grabbing a defensive rebound and scoring on a fast-break layup. Tyler Corley hit four free throws during the game’s final two minutes to give Arkansas Tech a 72-70 lead with 55 seconds left. Florida Tech had two opportunit­ies to tie the game, but a blocked shot from Tobe Okafor and a missed shot with six seconds left ended their chances. Andrew Buillory was fouled with three seconds left and hit both free throws to give the Wonder Boys a 74-70 lead. The Panthers hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to provide the final margin.

Corley led the Wonder Boys with 17 points off the bench. McKinney added 15 points and 12 rebounds for Arkansas Tech, while Marquis Yates had 14 points and Fletcher scored a season-high 10.

UA-FORT SMITH 74, DALLAS BAPTIST 66

Guard Alex Cooper scored 10 points and had a team-high eight assists, tying Arkansas-Fort Smith’s career assists record and helping the Lions to a victory Saturday at the Stubblefie­ld Center in Fort Smith.

UAFS, which led 34-29 at halftime, hit 26 of 58 shots (45 percent) from the floor and 17 of 23 (74 percent) from the free-throw line. Dallas Baptist hit 22 of 69 shots (32 percent) from the floor, but kept the game close with its three-point shooting, hitting 11 of 34 shots. Dallas Baptist made 11 of 16 free throws.

Dusan Stojanovic led the Lions with 14 points, DaVaunta Thomas had 13 and Seth Youngblood added 10. Myles Johnson led Dallas Baptist with 20 points, Shannon Lilly had 12 and Patrick Burke scored 10 off the bench.

MIDWESTERN STATE 75, OUACHITA BAPTIST 73

Justin McCleary scored a game-high 20 points for Ouachita Baptist, but a game that featured four ties and three lead changes finally went Midwestern State’s way Saturday at Bill Vining Arena in Arkadelphi­a.

The teams had nearly identical statistics. Ouachita Baptist made 22 of 55 shots (40 percent) while Midwestern State hit 26 of 63 (41.3 percent). The Tigers hit 8 of 21 three-pointers (38.1) percent, while the Mustangs hit 7 of 25 (28 percent). Ouachita Baptist outshot Midwestern State at the foul line, making 21 of 27 free throws (77.8 percent) while Midwestern State hit 16 of 31 (51.6 percent).

But Mustangs outscored the Tigers in the lane (32-24), on points off turnovers (18-15), fast-break points (16-10) and points off the bench (43-10).

Lakee Westbrook and David Berete scored 17 points each for Ouachita Baptist. Sheldon Hagigal led Midwestern State with 14 points.

QUINCY 100, SOUTHERN ARKANSAS 76

Quincy hit 17 three-pointers Saturday afternoon to defeat Southern Arkansas in the Quincy University Holiday Tournament at Pepsi Arena in Quincy, Ill.

Southern Arkansas (4-5) grabbed an early 7-0 lead in the game’s first four minutes, but Quincy scored the next nine points to take a 9-7 lead. CJ Elkins hit two free throws for the Muleriders to tie the game 9-9 with 14:14 left in the first half.

Joseph Tagarelli hit a jumper in the lane to give the lead back to Quincy, which built a 14-point lead over the rest of the half and led 51-37 at halftime.

SAU was 3 for 3 from the field to start the second half and Quincy went 4 for 4. Neither team missed a shot until 16:43 left in the second half. From there, Quincy built a lead that reached 90-51 with 9:27 left, but Southern Arkansas outscored the Hawks 25-10 in the final minutes to produce the final outcome.

Jaron Davis led Southern Arkansas with 21 points, while Denarious Lockhart had 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Quincy had five players score 10 or more points, led by Thomas Jackson’s game-high 25 points.

WOMEN UA-FORT SMITH 70, OUACHITA BAPTIST 51

Arkansas-Fort Smith led 21-10 after the first period and had 10 players score to end a two-game losing skid Saturday at Bill Vining Arena in Arkadelphi­a.

The Lady Lions (7-3) shot 25 of 65 (39 percent) from the floor and held the Lady Tigers to 17 of 67 shooting (25 percent). Ouachita Baptist went 1 of 24 from the three-point line and committed 24 turnovers, which led to 23 UAFS points.

Sydney Franklin scored 12 points to lead UA-Fort Smith and Jasmine Brainard added 11. Katie Kapler and Alexis Sharp scored 10 points each to lead Ouachita Baptist.
