PREP BASKETBALL Boys Gravette 44, Huntsville 42

Kelton Trembley hit the go- ahead bucket with 40 seconds left as Gravette upset 4A-1 Conference co-leader Huntsville in league action Friday in Gravette.

Gravette (12-12, 6-6), which trailed 32-29 after three quarters, then had two fouls to give after Trembley hit his bucket. The Lions used both fouls and a timeout in order to force Huntsville (223, 10-2) into a bad shot in the closing seconds, and Jackson Soulé grabbed the rebound to preserve the win.

Chris Childress, Trembley and Kyle Fox each had 10 points for Gravette, which closed out the game with three sophomores on the floor. Alex Pemberton had 15 points, all on 3-pointers, for Huntsville, while Ty Bohannan added 12.

Berryville 35, Pea Ridge 34

Brady Smith scored from underneath the basket at the buzzer as Berryville upset 4A-1 Conference co-leader Pea Ridge in league play at Pea Ridge.

Seth Helmlinger gave the Bobcats (16-9, 7-5) another chance at a buzzer-beater when he grabbed an offensive rebound in the closing seconds,

then passed the ball to Smith for the game-winning shot.

Helmlinger had 16 points and Turner 14 for Berryville, which maintained its grip on third place in the 4A-1 standings with two games remaining. Britton Caudill led Pea Ridge (20-4, 10-2), which travels to Huntsville for a game Tuesday to determine the conference leader. Little Rock Catholic 44, Siloam Springs 40

Little Rock Catholic tripped up one of Class 6A’s hottest teams on Friday, defeating the Siloam Springs boys basketball team in Little Rock

The Class 7A Rockets ( 4- 15, 3- 5 7A/6A-Central) led 15-9 after the first quarter and 21-16 at halftime.

Siloam Springs went on a 9-4 run to open the third quarter, but Catholic withstood and went on a 6-1 run to maintain its five-point lead 31-26 going into the fourth quarter.

Kyle Comiskey led the Panthers (15-6, 6-2) with 14 points, while Kyle Snavely was held to eight points. Tyler Newton, Noah Karp and Caleb Lampton each scored five, while Carlson Wakefield had two and Jordan Norberg one.

Tuesday in an important 6A Conference game. Girls Siloam Springs 48, Mount St. Mary 44

The Siloam Springs girls basketball team picked up a win on the road Friday, defeating Mount St. Mary in a 7A/6A-Central Conference game in Little Rock.

The Lady Panthers trailed 13-10 after the first quarter but came back to outscore the Belles 17-10 in the second quarter to lead 27-23 at halftime.

Siloam Springs led 33-30 going into the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Morgan Vaughn led the Lady Panthers ( 11- 10, 4- 4) with 14 points, while sophomore Hadlee Hollenback had 13, senior Haley Stewart 11, senior Abby Cox six, and senior Alexis Duffy and junior Sidney Henry each with two.

Lizzie Allgood led Mount Saint Mary (5-15, 0-8) with 28 points. She had 29 points in Siloam Springs’ 62-39 victory earlier this season.

The Lady Panthers host Greenwood on Tuesday in an important 6A conference game.

PREP TRACK Willis, Walker set state indoor records

Haas Hall Bentonvill­e freshman Tori Willis broke state indoor meet record in the girls 1,600-meter run for Class 1A through 4A schools during Friday’s meet at the Randal Tyson Track Center.

Willis turned in a time of 5 minutes, 16.27 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 5:17.20 set last year by Sarah Claycomb of Monticello. Her time was almost 6 seconds faster than second-place finisher Elizabeth Gillette of Trinity Christian.

Meanwhile, Gravette’s Jordan Jeter narrowly crossed the finish line ahead of Ozark’s Kennedy Timmerman to win the girls 400. Jeter turned in a time of 1 minute, 2.63 seconds, just .08 seconds ahead of Timmerman.

In the boys division, Prairie Grove’s Sydney Walker needed a state-record performanc­e to win the 200. Walker finished with a time of 22.67 seconds, beating the previous mark of 22.70 set in 2000 by Josh Foster of Heber Springs, while Crossett’s Trevean Caldwell finished second at 22.74.
