ONGOING PROJECTS
Greek houses: Phi Mu Sorority, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity The two sororities are building new houses, each to hold around 80 beds. Work’s expected to end this year or in 2017. Lambda Chi Alpha, meanwhile, is renovating its entire house, with work expected to wrap up in time for fall, according to its website.
Discover Hall Renovations continue to upgrade this science hall’s labs and other building systems. Rogers-based Crafton Tull has been gradually working on the project for seven years, according to its website, because the building is fully occupied during the academic year.
Yocum Hall Renovation to this 53-year-old residential hall has been underway for the past few years and continues apace, bringing the entire building upgraded elevators and other improvements. Art and Design District The Art Department will soon get a 33,000-square-foot facility near Hill Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to house a new metal foundry, wood shop, classrooms and other sculpting equipment and teaching space. The sculpture program rents out a 4,000-square-foot warehouse space now, associate professor Bethany Springer said, so its new home will be much larger and safer. “It’s like Christmas every day right now,” she said this month, calling the project “a dream come true.” The facility’s expansion and renovation is expected to be done by August. Much of the $2 million cost was covered by the Windgate Charitable Foundation in Siloam Springs.
