Naturals hold on, win series opener

Logan Moon ( Central Arkansas) homered to lead off the top of the seventh inning and Northwest Arkansas held off San Antonio 2-1 at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio.

Moon’s home run, his first of the season, broke a 1-1 tie.

Kevin McCarthy earned his eighth save of the season. Evan Beal (2-0) allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings of relief of starter Jake Junis.

Moon finished 2 for 4 to lead the Naturals.

HOOKS 7, TRAVELERS 4

The Arkansas Travelers hit three home runs, but lost to the Corpus Christi Hooks 7- 4 on Tuesday night at Whataburge­r Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Andrew Daniel, Angel Rosa and Stephen McGeee all homered for the Travs. The Hooks, though, outhit the Travs 10-7 and never trailed Tuesday.

Corpus Christi took a 3- 0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Alex Bregman homered with one out and J.D. Davis hit a two-run home run off Travs starter Blayne Weller.

The Travs cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the second inning on Daniel’s home run, but the Hooks scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 6-1 lead. Derek Fisher had a two-run single and Bregman scored on Davis’ fielder’s choice.

Alex Yarbrough’s RBI single in the top of the sixth inning pulled Arkansas within 6-2. Rosa hit his first home run of the season in the top of the seventh to get the Travs within 6-3.

The Hooks added a run in the bottom of the eighth for a 7-3 lead. McGee homered in the top of the ninth to make it a three-run game, 7-4, but Rosa grounded out to end the game.

Weller ( 2- 6) allowed 5 runs, 6 earned, on 6 hits and struck out 7 in 5 innings. Daniel was 2 for 4 to lead the Travs offensivel­y.
