Personal space

James Moore

Where I live: On an old homestead somewhere between hippy and hipster down a county road in Madison County.

Occupation: I host a lifestyle show on YouTube channel using the name ‘Busvlogger.’

My favorite space is: My home office.

Why? When our 1936 Craftsman-style farmhouse was built, my office was the master bedroom. It has a door leading directly to our sprawling front porch, and two of the walls are mostly windows, which makes for a lot of light.

I’ve surrounded myself with lots of kooky vintage finds that ignite my imagination, like my collection of rusty gas cans, an old Coke machine, a large grouping of vintage paint-by-number art and some well-worn midcentury modern furniture pieces. At the heart of it all is maybe the most unexpected piece, a dining room table. When working on projects, I like to spread all of the elements out and this provides me the space to do it. Our four kids also love it. They’ll craft, play games and color for hours, often forgetting about the television, and we end up spending all afternoon in our shared creative space.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Find room for a pull- out couch for overnight guests. I could lose the dining table, but that’s not a sacrifice any of us are willing to make; guests will just have to sleep on the table.
