Nightly lane closings expected on I-49

SPRINGDALE — Constructi­on work on Interstate 49 in Johnson and Springdale will require overnight lane closings beginning Tuesday night.

Bridge crews will treat bridge deck surfaces at the Clear Creek bridges, Johnson Mill Boulevard overpass and Sunset Avenue overpass, according to Arkansas Highway and Transporta­tion Department officials. The outside lanes of I-49 will alternatel­y be closed south of Johnson Mill Boulevard, exit 69, in Johnson to Sunset Avenue, exit 72, in Springdale to allow for constructi­on.

Lane closings will be Tuesday and Wednesday nights, weather permitting.

North I-49 lane closings will be between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

South I-49 lane closings will be between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Also beginning Tuesday night, crews will remove temporary barriers and place the final surface on north and south lanes of I-49. The lane closings within the work zone will extend south of Sunset Avenue and the Elm Springs Road overpass, exit 73. The median and outside lanes of I-49 will alternatel­y be closed to allow for constructi­on.

Lane closings will are expected to end Saturday morning, weather permitting.

North I-49 lane closings will be between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

South I-49 lane closings will be between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
