VIKINGS Peterson on IR

The Minnesota Vikings placed Adrian Peterson on injured reserve Friday.

Peterson underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee. It’s still possible Peterson returns this season as each NFL team is allowed to reinstate one player from injured reserve after eight weeks.

The earliest the Vikings could bring back Peterson onto the active roster is Week 11 in the middle of November, however he’s expected to be sidelined longer after choosing to have his meniscus tear fully repaired. Teams no longer need to designate which player they’d like to return from injured reserve.

Through two games, Peterson gained 50 yards on 31 carries before injuring his knee against Green Bay.

Peterson, 31, is under contract through next season, though it’s an option year with a cap hit of $18 million.

After the move, the Vikings sit with one open roster spot. CHIEFS Injuries add up

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs will be without starting offensive lineman Parker Ehinger and backup Jah Reid, and likely without star running back Jamaal Charles for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

Ehinger will miss his second consecutive game with a concussion. Reid is out with a knee injury.

Meanwhile, Charles was listed as doubtful for the Jets on Friday’s injury report, and it is becoming increasingly likely that the fourtime Pro Bowl player will not play before the Chiefs’ bye.

After the Jets, Kansas City visits the Steelers before getting a week off.

Charles has been practicing since training camp, but Coach Andy Reid has been cautious when it comes to activating him for game day. He tore the ACL in his right knee in Week 5 last season. RAMS

CB Williams waived

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Los Angeles Rams have waived cornerback Steve Williams and promoted defensive back Isaiah Johnson from their practice squad.

The Rams (1-1) announced the moves Friday before flying to Tampa Bay for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers.

The Rams signed Williams two weeks ago, but never activated him for a game. He spent his first three NFL seasons with the San Diego Chargers.

Los Angeles signed Johnson to its practice squad on Sept. 6, three days after the Lions waived him. The Georgia Tech product spent his first NFL season with Detroit. CHARGERS

DE Bosa still out

SAN DIEGO — Chargers rookie defensive end Joey Bosa has been ruled out of his third consecutive game due to a hamstring injury.

The Chargers (1-1) play at Indianapolis (0-2) on Sunday.

Bosa practiced only on a limited basis this week. The former Ohio State star missed all of training camp due to a nasty contract dispute, and then hurt a hamstring.

Star tight end Antonio Gates is listed as doubtful with a hamstring injury. He didn’t practice all week. LIONS Ansah scratched ALLEN PARK, Mich. — The Detroit Lions have decided defensive

end Ezekiel Ansah will not play against the Green Bay Packers because of an injured left ankle.

The Lions listed Ansah as out on their injury report Friday.

Ansah was hurt early in Sunday’s loss to Tennessee and didn’t return to play in the game.

Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy is doubtful with a quadriceps injury, leaving the team with only a little hope he will be cleared to play Sunday at Green Bay after he was inactive against the Titans. Levy missed much of last season with a hip injury.

Levy and linebacker Antwione Williams, who has a hamstring injury, didn’t practice Friday. Williams is also doubtful to face the Packers. BUCCANEERS

TE charged with DUI

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins on Friday after he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Tampa, Fla.

The news was reported by several outlets, and Seferian-Jenkins thanked the team’s fans on Twitter, saying he is ready for “the next chapter.”

“We are very disappointed in today’s news,” Tampa Bay General Manager Jason Licht said. “After careful consideration, we felt this was the right decision at this time.”

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Seferian-Jenkins was stopped for entering I-275 south near State Road 60 and traveling 75-80 mph in a 55-mph zone early Friday morning. He made an improper lane change, cutting off a state trooper traveling in his patrol vehicle, and was weaving back and forth, the FHP said in a release.

Seferian-Jenkins refused a breath test at the Hillsborough County Jail.

Seferian-Jenkins was charged with DUI and violation of an ignition interlock device restriction from a previous arrest in the state of Washington in 2013.

Seferian-Jenkins (6-5, 260), who will turn 24 on Thursday, was taken by the Bucs in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft. He played collegiately at Washington. He has 45 career receptions for 603 yards and 7 touchdowns. He made 3 catches for 44 yards and 1 touchdown this season. RAIDERS Joseph to make debut

First-round draft pick Karl Joseph’s debut on defense is coming three weeks later than he had hoped and maybe a few weeks earlier than the Raiders planned.

With Oakland’s pass defense still stinging after back-to-back thumpings by Drew Brees and Matt Ryan, coach Jack Del Rio is open to seeing what Joseph can do.

“I’m excited to see him play,” Del Rio said Friday. “I know he’s excited to get a chance to play. We plan on playing him. He’s had a really good week of practice. I feel like we’ve had a good solid week of preparation and we’re excited to go play.”

Joseph has not played at all on defense this season. His 16 plays of experience have come on special teams, a notable change from the preseason and in training camp when the 14th-overall pick in this year’s draft lined up with the starters.

Keith McGill, a converted cornerback who was buried on the depth chart, was the surprising starter in Oakland’s season-opening win over New Orleans and against last week in the home loss to Atlanta.

Although Del Rio declined to

Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker is questionable for Sunday’s game with the Oakland Raiders after being held out of practice Friday with a sore hamstring.

Walker led the Titans last season with 94 receptions, and he had six catches for 83 yards and a touchdown in Tennessee’s 1615 comeback victory at Detroit last week.

The Titans (1-1) hope Walker might play Sunday with more rest and treatment. Walker said Wednesday he would not miss Sunday’s game.

“We’ll see how I feel (Saturday) and go from there,” Walker said. “We didn’t want to take any chances and make it worse. We’re just trying to do the best plan to make sure I can play on Sunday.”

Wide receiver Kendall Wright and linebacker Derrick Morgan also are questionable with injured left hamstrings, but both practiced Friday. FINES Several wallets hit

Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs cost himself $12,154 in fines from the NFL by coming off the sideline to join an altercation in Sunday’s win over Green Bay.

Diggs was one of 11 players fined Friday by the league, and the only one who was disciplined for leaving the bench area.

The biggest fines this week were for $18,231 to Raiders punter Marquette King (horse-collar

Also fined $9,115 each were three players from the Jets’ win over Buffalo: New York DL Sheldon Richardson and WR Eric Decker, both for taunting, and Bills cornerback Stephon Gilmore for a face-mask tackle that injured receiver Brandon Marshall .

Houston cornerback Kevin Johnson was docked $12,154 for unsportsmanlike conduct (excessive celebration). Kansas City CB Marcus Peters was fined $9,115 for taunting. Denver safety Darian Stewart got hit for $9,115 for a forearm shot to the quarterback. And Panthers WR Devin Funchess also got $12,154 for excessive celebration. BEARS Cutler doubtful

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is doubtful and top receiver Alshon Jeffery is questionable for Sunday’s game at Dallas because of injuries.

Cutler left Monday’s loss to Philadelphia because of a sprained right thumb. Brian Hoyer has been working with the first team and is expected to start. Jeffery says he developed knee soreness against the Eagles.

The injuries mean the Bears (02) could be without two of their most important offensive players when they face the Cowboys. They are also banged up on defense, with linebacker Lamarr Houston tearing the ACL in his left knee against Philadelphia and linebacker Danny Trevathan suffering a thumb injury that required surgery.
