No.7 Stanford 27, USC 10: Christian McCaffrey showed off his trademark versatilit­y, slipping out of the backfield for a 56-yard touchdown reception and diving over the pile for a 1-yard score, and No. 7 Stanford beat Southern California 27-10 on Saturday night.

The AP player of the year and Heisman Trophy runner-up had a routine 260 all-purpose yards. Michael Rector went 56 yards for a touchdown on a reverse with 3:26 left in the third quarter to make it 27-10.

The Cardinal (2-0, 1-0 Pac-12) have now won seven of nine against the Trojans, the best nine-game stretch for the Cardinal in the history of a rivalry that covers 96 games and more 111 years. …

No. 8 Washington 41, Portland State 3: Jake Browning threw three touchdown passes in the first 16 minutes and No. 8 Washington closed out its uninspired non-conference schedule with a 41-3 win over Portland State on Saturday night.

Browning and the Huskies (3-0) led 14-0 after less than 3 minutes and coasted their way past the lower division opponent. Browning threw a 43-yard touchdown to Chico McClatcher on Washington’s opening drive, and added TD tosses of 11 yards to Darrell Daniels, 13 yards to McClatcher on the second play of the second quarter and a 4-yard TD pass to Myles Gaskin early in the fourth quarter. …

Arizona State 32, UTSA 28: Kalen Ballage scored on a 2-yard run with 3:15 to play and Arizona State rallied from 16 points down in the second half for a tough win over Texas-San Antonio on Friday night.

Ballage, who tied an NCAA record with eight touchdowns a week earlier against Texas Tech, capped the rally when he took a direct snap and powered over the goal line. The touchdown was set up by a defensive pass interferen­ce penalty on third down one play earlier.

Zane Gonzalez kicked four field goals, including two from 54 yards, for Arizona State (3-0) and became the Pac-12 career scoring leader. …

Washington State 56, Idaho 6: Luke Falk threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns as Washington State beat Idaho on Saturday, a positive end to a tumultuous week for the Cougars.

James Williams rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown for Washington State (1-2), which won on a wet, windy day when the Air Raid offense was not working very well. Idaho (1-2) struggled for the second straight week against a Pac-12 team, after losing at No. 8 Washington.

Falk threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Robert Lewis early in the fourth for a 35-6 lead, and the Cougars added three more touchdowns in the fourth.

Oregon State 37, Idaho State 7: Darell Garretson threw for 172 yards and ran for a touchdown and Oregon State snapped a 10-game losing streak that dated back to last season with a victory Saturday over Idaho State.

Victor Bolden ran for 111 yards on just three carries, including a 92-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for the Beavers (1-1), the second-longest in Oregon State history.

Garretson scored on a 7-yard keeper and Ryan Nall added a 2-yard TD run as the Beavers ran up a 23-0 lead in the first half. Treston Decoud scored on a 75-yard intercepti­on return midway through the third quarter for the Beavers. …

UCLA 17, BYU 14: Josh Rosen threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns as UCLA suffocated BYU 17-14 on Saturday night.

Neither offense shined as the two defenses controlled most of the night, but UCLA (2-1) was able to hold BYU (1-2) to 273 yards, including 23 on the ground. The Cougars were held to negative rushing yards until late in the third quarter and 91 of those offensive yards came on their final possession.

BYU quarterbac­k Taysom Hill finished with 250 passing yards, one touchdown one intercepti­on and was sacked four times. …

California 50, No. 11 Texas 43: Davis Webb threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game to break a tie with 3:41 to play and California got its first win over a ranked team in nearly four years.

Webb, who grew up outside Dallas cheering for the Longhorns, made the most of his first meeting against his home-state team. He threw for 397 yards, ran for a score and connected on a 12-yard pass to Chad Hansen that broke a 43-all tie and gave coach Sonny Dykes his biggest win in four seasons at Cal (2-1). …

Utah 34, San Jose State 17: Until Utah’s young offense finds its footing, the Utes defense feels ready to shoulder the load.

The Utes sacked San Jose State’s quarterbac­ks 10 times and scored 17 points off three turnovers on the way to a 34-17 victory Saturday night.

“It’s contagious,” said defensive end Hunter Dimick. “As an identity, we’re still trying to build that. This was a step in the right direction.”

Eight different Utah players collected sacks, with Dimick and Filipo Mokofisi each notching a pair. …

Arizona 47, Hawaii 28: Brandon Dawkins made the most of another start for injured Anu Solomon, especially in the first half.

The Arizona redshirt sophomore ran for three touchdowns and passed for another, all in the first two quarters, and the Wildcats wrapped up nonconfere­nce play with a 47-28 victory over Hawaii on Saturday night.

With Solomon out with a knee injury for the second straight game, Dawkins, completed 16 of 21 passes for 235 yards and carried 15 times for 118 more.
