Idaho edges UNLV in overtime 33-30

-

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Callen Hightower hauled in an 11-yard touchdown pass in overtime Saturday night to lift Idaho past UNLV in a 3330 win Saturday night.

UNLV (1-3) opened the OT period with a 23-yard field goal from Evan Panels after stalling at the 5. Then it was Idaho’s turn as Aaron Duckworth and Linehan pushed to the 11 on the ground, setting up the winning throw to Hightower.

Linehan finished 17 of 35 for 249 yards and 19 more on the ground, including a 7-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Duckworth had 90 yards on 20 carries, including a TD, and Kaden Ellis returned an interception 31 yards for the game’s first score as Idaho (2-2) picked up its first road win of the season. Austin Rehkow had two field goals for the Vandals.

Trailing 27-20 in the fourth quarter, UNLV forced overtime with a 55-yard touchdown run by Lexington Thomas, who finished with 160 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns.

Eastern Michigan 27, Wyoming 24: Ian Eriksen scored on a 15-yard run with 1:35 left and Eastern Michigan beat Wyoming 27-24 on Friday night in a game where protesters gathered near an end zone and marched on the field when play was finished.

The protest came two days after racial graffiti was found spray painted on a campus building. The students sat peacefully and talked to EMU President James Smith late in the third quarter. The students moved outside the end zone area in the closing moments before walking onto the field chanting, “No justice! No peace!” A Wyoming player joined protesters for a few moments.

Brogan Robach, last year’s starting quarterback, guided the winning four-play, 47-yard drive in his first action after being suspended for the start of the season. Eriksen, who had 120 yards on 27 carries, scored untouched on a draw play.

Wyoming held the lead most of the game, opening the scoring when Marcus Epps intercepted Todd Porter’s pass and returned it 66 yards midway through the first quarter. The Cowboys took a 24-20 lead with 12:45 to go when Logan Wilson returned Porter’s interception 27 yards.

After the Cowboys built a 17-3 lead, the Eagles (3-1), off to their best start since going 3-1 in 1995, tied it at 17 by the half. Breck Turner went 50 yards for his first career score, and Porter found John Niupalau for a 7-yard score 18 seconds before intermission.

Jeremiah Harris blocked a Wyoming field goal attempt in the final minute of the third quarter.
