Our greatest threats
Dr. Gitz is highly capable of defending himself against the pushback by the letter published from William Melchior, who attempted to refute Dr. Gitz’s assertion that 97 percent of climate scientists have not stated that humankind has caused global warming. I believe Melchior’s recitations do not refute the myth exposed by Dr. Gitz. What Melchior does is show that a large number of climate scientists do support the contention that global warming is a real phenomenon and that a majority of climate scientists probably contend such warming is human influenced. The devil is in the details—or more correctly, how you present the statistics and ask the questions in the surveys.
What should be of greater concern to all readers of Melchior and many other far left-wing liberals is the assertion that climate change—global warming—is the greatest threat to our planet today. First, none of the predicted climate disasters attributable to global warming have occurred as predicted. Yes, I am missing glaciers where they were once noticeable, and yes, oceans levels have risen, causing a number of poor communities in low-lying Third World countries to seek higher ground. But such global changes are extremely slow and we humans are highly adaptive. To think that we in the U.S. can stop, slow down or reverse climate change is ludicrous! I believe all we can do by trying the proposed Obama EPA “solutions” is wreck our economy and create real poverty here on our soil.
I believe until you read the Koran, you will never understand that fundamental Islam, North Korea and Vladimir Putin each individually constitute the greatest threats to our planet, world peace and our way of life. JOE T. TUCKER Cabot
