Greenberg article demeaned half a country

-

Paul Greenberg wrote a most disparaging article entitled “Hear America talking” Feb. 26. I can’t understand why educated people would publish an article so full of hate. And I also can’t believe a person who is in a position to make an impact for good made the choice to demean half a country of people he doesn’t even know. Pardon me: He might know them by their accents! Have you ever heard of anything so ignorant?

If you read this article, you are probably still quite puzzled as to the purpose of Mr. Greenberg’s musings. The only thoughts that come to mind is he for sure wanted to slander Bill and Hillary Clinton and be able to get by with it by using the guise of an editorial page. He got licks in on Texan Rick Perry, people who pray, people who live in certain parts of Pennsylvania, and hard-working clerks of certain department stores. I sure hope Keven Williamson isn’t a friend of Mr. Greenberg’s since he wasn’t painted in a thoughtful light either.. He actually quoted several mean-spirited insults about Bill Clinton’s heart repair. Hasn’t he heard that you don’t kick a person when they’re down? We readers can tell Mr. Williamson doesn’t actually know Mr. Clinton from Adam, or he wouldn’t have used such language.

We are left wondering what important information Mr. Greenberg wanted people to be able to glean from the rows of manure. Finally, I get it! He doesn’t like “hayseeds.” You know, those who live in the country — probably farmers, most of who live in the breadbasket and grow the largest bulk of our food. He actually tries to make a comparison of them to Trump — as if there was one.

Didn’t he also want us to know, as mainstream Americans, that no matter what our party, we need to be listened to, and our needs met, before anyone else’s because of our veritable numbers. We deserve our fair share of the pie and a fair shake because we run our country. We are the farmers, factory workers, teachers, designers, builders, engineers, service people and small-business owners. Without us, it all collapses.

Did he want us to understand that if we stand together, are true to ourselves, speak truthfully and stand for the right, Mr. Trump, as president, would hear our cries and do what is needed to protect us and our families? Would we be well-nourished with fresh food and clean water and be able to expect health and dental care we can afford? Does he understand we want opportunities for our children such as his father game him? We just want a more level playing field, and we want to work for it. Don’t we need to treat other people how we want to be treated?

Is that populist enough, Mr. Greenberg? I’m wondering if you rate enough to convey our message to Mr. Trump because so far, he “no comprende.” Do you understand our accents? VICKI MOORE
