County Camp Rescue deadline May 30
FAYETTEVILLE — Washington County teens interested in public safety careers have until May 30 to apply for a spot at Camp Rescue, the county’s program giving an inside look at emergency services careers.
The annual Camp Rescue is scheduled for June 19-24, according to the county Fire Marshal’s Office.
The program is for 15- to 18-year- olds and teaches a combination of emergency skills, including CPR and Sheriff ’s Office weaponry. About 25 to 30 teens will be chosen from applicants.
The fee to participate is $50 and includes daily lunch and snacks.
The program will run 8 a. m. to 4: 30 p. m. Monday through Friday with an expo Saturday morning. The expo is open to the public. Students will demonstrate what they learned during the camp.
The camp helps prepare teens for careers in emergency services, including emergency dispatching, fire, police and ambulance skills, said Tyler McCartney, assistant fire marshal for the county.
Some of the information provided during the program is “graphic,” according to information from McCartney.
The camp is a joint effort between the Sheriff’s Office and Central EMS.
A completed application should be sent to 645 S. School Ave. Applications are available on the county government website: www.co.washington.ar.us/government/
