Arkansas Index slips 7.25 to close 318.60

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, slid 7.25 to 318.60 Wednesday.

“U.S. equities sold off sharply throughout the day due to political uncertaint­y as the [Chicago Board Options Exchange] Volatility Index spiked over 40 percent,” said Leon Lants, managing director at Stephens Inc. in Little Rock.

Total volume for the index was 30.3 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
