School board gets in brief meeting before year ends
School board members met for seven minutes in Superintendent Ken Ramey’s office on June 29 to take care of a few agenda items before the district’s fiscal year ended June 30.
Board members approved a low bid of $23,393.62 from CMC Sealcoating and Linestriping for the sealing and striping of the Southside Elementary School parking lot. Two other bids were submitted, including a bid of $28,432.21 from S&S Inc., and a bid of $32,970.30 from McCormick Works.
Assistant superintendent Jody Wiggins recommended School Board members approve the low bid, explaining CMC Sealcoating and Linestriping did the striping in the Middle School and Northside Elementary School parking lots a few years ago. The district was pleased with the company’s work, Wiggins said.
In other business, the board accepted the resignation of four teachers: Jenna Hall, Allen Elementary School resource teacher; Sara Lawhorn, High School math teacher; Kevin Cohea, Main Street Academy language arts teacher; and Latasha Armer, High School English teacher.
The board also approved hiring four teachers: Barbara Peevyhouse, High School English teacher; Katie Oakes, High School business teacher; Darrin Brock, High School math teacher; and Tara Sallee, Intermediate School math and science teacher.
Finally, board members approved the transfer of five students into the Siloam Springs School District from the Gentry School District; the transfer of two students from Siloam Springs Schools into Gentry School District; and the transfer of two students from Siloam Springs School District to Bentonville School District.
The next school board meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. July 20, in the board room at Siloam Springs Middle School.
