100 YEARS AGO July 13, 1917

FAYETTEVIL­LE — A lone bandit, unmasked, robbed the Bank of Richland at Drake’s Creek, Madison County of $885 in coin and currency at 3 o’clock this afternoon, and escaped before the robbery became known. Tonight officers of Madison and Washington counties are searching for him. The robber walked into the bank and held up the cashier, Earl Hill, at the point of a gun. He marched Hill to the vault and locked him in by turning the combinatio­n. He then looted the cash drawers at his leisure and walked out upon the street.

50 YEARS AGO July 13, 1967

BENTON — David Washington, 25, of Jacksonvil­le, has been charged with possession of untaxed liquor and reckless driving following his arrest in Saline County Tuesday night. State Trooper Charles King said he found more than 50 gallons of untaxed liquor in the trunk and back seat of Washington’s car. King said Washington was arrested about a mile west of the Bauxite-Bryant overpass.

■ A 13-year-old Little Rock girl was shot and killed early Sunday and a second girl, 15, was injured when a gunman opened fire at 15th and Oak streets, police said. Lamesha Barton of 166 Granite Mountain Circle was shot once in the upper chest about 1 a.m. when a gunman “slipped around the side of a house and started shooting,” Little Rock police Lt. John Martin said. Barton was taken by private vehicle to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, where she was pronounced dead about 2 a.m. Nicole Chung of 819 S. Valmar was treated at Children’s Hospital for gunshot wounds to both legs and released Sunday, a Hospital spokesman said.

PINE BLUFF — A Pine Bluff man faces a capital murder charge in the beating death of his girlfriend’s infant child. Traveles Bullard, 21, turned himself in at the Jefferson County sheriff’s office at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, his family members and pastor by his side, and was transporte­d to the Pine Bluff Police Department about an hour later, authoritie­s said Thursday. Bullard is accused of killing Jermauri Craig, who was 9 months old. He is scheduled to appear in Jefferson County Circuit Court at 10 a.m. today for a probable-cause hearing.
