State index up 2.74 as 2 truckers climb

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, rose 2.74 to 336.69 Wednesday.

All but four stocks on the index gained ground.

USA Truck climbed 4.7 percent on heavy volume, and P.A.M. Transporta­tion rose 3.5 percent.

Windstream fell 2.4 percent in light trading.

Total volume for the index was 28.5 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
