Marketplace of jobs

-

A 5-year-old entrepreneur opened a lemonade stand that was doing so well he got two other 5-year-old kids to help him. One of these kids (encouraged by his parents) started telling their customers that he was going to open up a stand across the street which would have better lemonade and would be available just as soon as he secured the money to set it up. The entrepreneur kid decided to tell this kid he was no longer welcome at his stand. The kid’s parents came down and said this was unfair and caused such a ruckus that the entrepreneur kid closed up his business. Was this okay?

An employer develops a product and hires a number of employees to produce said product so he and his employees can all be gainfully employed. The business does well and one employee (that does a good job) decides he needs more money and makes complaints among other employees that they should all be paid more, and demands other things. The employer doesn’t feel he can meet these demands and, although this employee does good work, since this disgruntled employee is causing friction, he fires him. Does the employer not have this right?

Since there are so many injuries in pro football and since all owners of NFL teams are financially secure and since there seem to be employees who want to do their own thing while employed, maybe the owners should just close up shop. Disband the league. This would give the employees/players the opportunity to do their own thing in the marketplace of real jobs.

Wouldn’t that be wonderful and fair and happy? GORDON SWAIM North Little Rock
