Springdale police track down suspect

SPRINGDALE — Police arrested Clinton Monroe, 37, on Wednesday morning in connection with residentia­l burglary.

Bentonvill­e police were looking for Monroe in connection with residentia­l burglary, theft of a firearm and possession of a firearm by certain persons, according to a Springdale police preliminar­y report.

Springdale police searched for Monroe on Tuesday afternoon near his home at 7213-B Napa Valley Lane. A couple of schools were under lockdown for a short time during the search, said Sgt. Jeff Taylor, Springdale police spokesman.

Springdale police found Monroe just before 11 a.m. Wednesday in a white house behind Long John Silver’s at 905 1/2 W. Sunset Ave. and told Bentonvill­e officers who had traced Monroe’s phone to the house.

Monroe turned himself in to police without incident, according to the report.

Monroe confessed to residentia­l burglary of a home on Southwest Redwood Avenue in Bentonvill­e on Monday. He said he stole guns from the home and sold them. He also took tools, electronic­s, credit cards and other items that were in the Sunset Avenue apartment, according to the report.

He said he stole a 2013 Nissan Altima from a garage near his house on Napa Valley Lane about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. He took police to where he left the car at 1405 Ingram St., according to the report.

Monroe faces felony charges of theft of property for the vehicle, theft by receiving for the stolen credit cards and breaking parole.

Monroe was booked into the Springdale City Jail on Wednesday, according to the report.
