Prairie Grove wins rematch with Shiloh Christian

SPRINGDALE — Prairie Grove wore the same uniforms, but it was a different team that faced Shiloh Christian on Tuesday.

Four days after losing to the Lady Saints by double digits, Prairie Grove defeated Shiloh Christian 43-40 in 4A-1 Conference play at the Gymnasium of Champions. Emily Grant scored 11 points for Prairie Grove, which held on despite three missed free throws and a 5-second call in the final minute.

The game was a rematch from Saturday when Shiloh Christian defeated Prairie Grove 42-31 in a tournament consolatio­n game at Siloam Springs. Prairie Grove struggled to make shots, including 7 of 28 on 3-point attempts. But it was a 3-point flurry in the second quarter that enabled Prairie Grove to turn an eight-point deficit into a 25-21 lead at halftime. Five players came off the bench, including junior Lexie Madewell, who made two 3-point baskets and forced two turnovers during the surge. Larisha Crawford added a 3-pointer and Aniya Gibbs made a short jumper to give Prairie Grove its first lead of the game at 19-18.

“We made some threes and did a better job of moving the ball around,” Prairie Grove coach Kevin Froud said. “We sped the game up some and Aniya, Lexie, and that group did a good job. They came in and gave us a spark.”

Lia Enos finished with 14 points after she scored 20 against Prairie Grove on Saturday. Carey Johnson added 12 for Shiloh Christian while Madewell finished with eight points for the Lady Tigers.

Prairie Grove continued its hot shooting in the third quarter and increased its lead to 31-21 following consecutiv­e 3-pointers by Grant and Kaylee Elder.

Grant countered with a basket high off the glass. Freshman Jasmine Wynos made only one basket, but it was a big one when she stole a pass near midcourt and scored to put Prairie Grove ahead 43-36 with one minute, 48 seconds to play. Prairie Grove ..... 10 15 10 8 — 43

BOYS PRAIRIE GROVE 64, SHILOH CHRISTIAN 61

D.J. Pearson, Jr., made two free throws with 11.2 seconds left to lift Prairie Grove past Shiloh Christian.

Pearson’s free throws followed a steal by John Davis Elder and gave Prairie Grove a 64-61 lead. Shiloh Christian had a chance to tie but Jackson Hutchinson missed a 3-pointer just before the final buzzer.

Pearson finished with 22 points to lead Prairie Grove. Will Pridmore added 21 points before he fouled out in the fourth quarter. Hutchinson scored 30 points to lead Shiloh Christian.
