I-49 lane closings required for work

-

SPRINGDALE — Road crews will take another crack at maintenance work on three Interstate 49 bridges and overpasses in Johnson and Springdale after weather delayed previously scheduled work.

The work requires nighttime lane closings, according to Arkansas Department of Transportation officials.

Weather permitting, crews will perform maintenance on bridges and overpasses at Clear Creek, south of Exit 69, Johnson Mill Boulevard, Exit 69, and U.S. 412, Exit 72. The inside and center lanes will be closed to perform the work. The northbound lanes will be closed first, and once the work is complete, crews will close the southbound lanes.

The overnight closings will be in effect Monday night through Friday morning. Traffic will be controlled using signage and barrels. Northbound lane closings will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Southbound lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Crews constructing U.S. 412 Northern Bypass also will require lane closings on I-49.

Weather permitting, lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through March 16 between Wagon Wheel Road, Exit 76, in Springdale and Arkansas 264, Exit 78, in Lowell.

The outside lanes of northbound and southbound I-49 alternately will be closed to allow the contractor to lay asphalt pavement along the shoulder of the interstate. Traffic will be controlled using traffic barrels and warning signs.

The contractor is building about four miles of the four-lane U.S. 412 Northern Bypass from I-49 to Arkansas 112. More information on the $100.6 million project is available at Connecting ArkansasProgram.com.
