BENTONVILLE — A Rogers man was in a relationship with the woman he’s accused of killing, Lt. Paul Pillaro of the Lowell Police Department said Wednesday.

Jose Alonso Torres and Norma Salinas have two young daughters who were present when Torres, 26, shot Salinas, Pillaro said. Pillaro didn’t know the ages of the two girls.

Salinas, 24, was pronounced dead Tuesday evening at Mercy Hospital in Rogers. She was taken to the hospital after police found her shot in a vehicle at a mobile home park at North Bloomington Road and Fullerton Avenue.

Police went to the scene at 5 p.m. Tuesday after a call concerning shots fired at the location.

Benton County Sheriff ’s Office deputies arrested Torres near Avoca in connection with capital murder, two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and aggravated assault. Prosecutors haven’t filed formal charges against Torres.

He was being held Wednesday in the Benton County Jail with no bond set.

Pillaro described the shooting Tuesday as a domesticrelated crime and said Torres and Salinas were in a fight when the shooting occurred. Torres and Salinas were visiting someone at one of the mobile homes, according to Pillaro.

Sgt. Shannon Jenkins, spokeswoman for the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, said Torres was arrested by deputies without incident after a traffic stop.

Torres’ bond hearing is expected to take place today.
