NWACC PROVIDES KIDS SCHOLARSHIPS
Northwest Arkansas Community College will provide a total of $2,100 in scholarships to Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton County for children to attend NWACC’s summer Kid’s College programs. Scholarships will be distributed among the four Boys & Girls Club locations of Benton County at the discretion of the Boys & Girls Club officials.
NWACC’s Kid’s College will be offered to students ages 9-12 and 13-16 from June 4 to June 28. Both halfand full-day programs will be provided in art, technology, robots, politics and cooking.

JARVIS ATTAINS EAGLE SCOUT
Daniel Jarvis, 15, a member of Boy Scout Troop 102 at Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Jarvis organized volunteers to remove nonnative, invasive plant species from the area around Niokaska Creek in Gulley Park. He has continued working in conjunction with Fayetteville Parks and Recreation department and the Illinois River Watershed Partnership to organize volunteers to plant native plants along the creek corridor and monitor their health and growth as he works on scouting’s highest conservation award, the William T. Hornaday Award.
Jarvis has earned scouting’s outdoor ethics awareness award and outdoor ethics action award. He currently serves as his troop’s outdoor ethics guide, promoting “leave no trace” and other outdoor ethics principles. He has also served the troop as patrol leader, troop guide and instructor. In 2016, he attended National Youth Leadership Training at Kia Kima Scout Reservation in Northeast Arkansas. He is the son of Hallie and Steven Jarvis.
JBU SELECTED BY COUNCIL
John Brown University in Siloam Springs was selected by the Council of Independent Colleges to participate in the inaugural “Diversity, Civility and the Liberal Arts Institute” on June 3-6 in Atlanta. The institute is designed to help faculty and administrators learn about research and best practices that enable students to understand and engage in thoughtful discussions on issues of diversity, civility and the causes of social unrest that are prominent on campuses today.
Representing the school will be Chip Pollard, president; Rod Reed, school chaplain; Trisha Posey, associate professor of history; and Marquita Smith, associate professor of journalism and coordinator of diversity relations.
RETIRED MARINE ATTENDS BANQUET

Lt. Col. E.S. Lawbaugh of Fayetteville attended the “Toast to Heroes” banquet March 3 in Portsmouth,
Va. More than
100 wounded veterans and Gold Star family members were invited and honored at the event. Lawbaugh served two combat tours in Vietnam and was wounded in action Aug. 12, 1969. He was inducted into the Arkansas Military Veterans Hall of Fame in 2013.
ATCHISON SERVING IN NAVY
Petty Officer 3rd Class Aubrey Atchison, a Bentonville native and 2014 Bentonville High School graduate, serves as a gunner’s mate in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush. Atchison is responsible for running the armory.
