Shots during football game hurt two men
WELLINGTON, Fla. — A high school football stadium was evacuated after a shooting during a practice football game in south Florida on Friday night that left two men wounded.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said at a news conference Saturday that the adult victims were not students at Palm Beach Central High School and that both happened to be at the game. Bradshaw said the two suspects specifically targeted the victims because of unspecified past dealings they had and that it was not a random shooting.
A 39-year-old victim is in stable condition while a 29-year-old is in critical but stable condition, authorities said. Their names were not released.
One of the victims was found on school property and the second victim was taken to the hospital by a friend. Authorities did not release any information about a possible suspect.
The Palm Beach Post reported that a helicopter landed on the field, and a man was treated on the track.
Lynn Monnette told the newspaper that she was watching her son play when she heard four shots fired during the fourth quarter. She said the shots were coming from the far end of the bleachers underneath where the band sits.
It was not immediately clear whether the shots were fired in or near the stadium.
No arrests had been made Saturday.
