THE SKINNY: Fresh Cravings has a fresh idea: individual Salsa & Tortilla Chips snack packs that can be eaten on the go or packed in a lunch.
Sold in Walmart stores by the produce, the refrigerated restaurant-style salsa has a livelier taste — with predominant notes of onion and cilantro — than jarred shelf-stable salsa. A plastic cup of Mild Crave salsa is packaged with the right amount of tortilla rounds that have the right amount of salt. The packs cost $1.78 each.
For those who’d rather pack their own chips — or forgo them altogether — Fresh Cravings also sells a handy four-pack of individual salsa containers (each contains 30 calories and zero fat, 6 carbohydrate, 1 fiber, 4 sugar and 1 protein grams).
But note, packaged this way, a four-pack of Mild Crave salsa costs $2.98 for 12 ounces when larger, 16-ounce containers cost the same price (and come in a variety of flavors: Mild Crave, Medium Crave, Hot Crave in chunky and regular varieties).
So just portioning out your own salsa might make more sense and cents.
