Kim, Arkansas near top in NC

Dylan Kim had six birdies Friday, including five on the back nine, but also had two bogies to finish at 4-under 68 after the first round of the Tar Heel Invitation­al in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Kim is tied for fourth place individual­ly, two shots behind the tournament leader. Cara Gorlei, playing in her first tournament of the season, shot a 3-under 69 and is tied for 10th place. She had an eagle and a birdie in her final eight holes.

The Razorbacks shot a 3-under 285 as a team and sit in third place, well behind tournament leader Duke (17-under 271) and Virginia (11-under 277).

UAPB beats Texas Southern

Rebecca Holmes’ goal in the 101st minute gave the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women’s team a 1-0 overtime victory over SWAC leader Texas Southern on Friday at Pumphrey Stadium in Pine Bluff.

Holmes and Karissa Fenwick had three shots each for the Golden Lions (2-5-2, 2-2-2 SWAC), who finished with 13 shots, with two of Holmes’ shots going on-goal. Rania Kablawi had 4 of the Tigers’ 12 shots, with 3 going on-goal. Mia Marshall had three shots for the Tigers (5-6-1, 5-1) with two on-goal.

Griffith leads Hendrix to victory

Hagan Griffith scored two goals Friday, marking her fourth multigoal game of the season, to lead Hendrix College (10-4, 4-1 Southern Athletic Associatio­n) to a 2-0 victory over Oglethorpe (4-9-1, 1-3-1) in Atlanta.

Griffith’s goals came in the 36th and 37th minutes, and she now leads the conference with 12 goals this season. She is five goals shy of breaking the school’s career goals scored record.

With the victory, the Warriors assured themselves of a top-four seed and their first-ever home conference tournament game.

VOLLEYBALL UALR sweeps ULM

Taylor Lindberg had 17 assists, 7 kills and 7 digs to lead the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to a 25-18, 25-14, 25-16 sweep of Louisiana-Monroe on Friday at the Jack Stephens Center.

Pamela Zuluaga had 25 assists, while Sydnee Martin and Diana Giordani led the Trojans (12-8, 4-3 Sun Belt) with nine digs each.

ASU gets home victory

Carlisa May had a match-high 17 kills and Macey Putt added 14 as Arkansas State University (10-10, 2-5 Sun Belt Conference) swept Louisiana-Lafayette 25-18, 25-20, 25-16 in Jonesboro on Friday.

Ellie Watkins had 38 assists and Tatum Ticknor added 12 digs, both match highs, for the Red Wolves. Nia Antoine and Dree’Ana Abram led the Ragin’ Cajuns (11-10, 3-4) with 6 kills each, while Avery Breaux had 15 assists and Sydney Davis added 11 digs.

Harding earns GAC Tournament berth

Harding University (15-7, 9-1 Great American Conference) got 16 digs and 12 kills from Madison Poen in a 21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-16 victory over Southern Nazarene on Friday at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House in Searcy.

Harding’s win, coupled with Southeaste­rn Oklahoma State’s loss at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, assured the Lady Bisons of a berth in the conference tournament. Taylor Eubank had 19 digs, Taylor Lake had 18 and Katherine Cowart added 13 for Harding, which has won 11 of its past 12 matches.

Eshnaur leads Arkansas Tech to sweep

Hunter Eshnaur had 18 kills, 17 digs and 3 service aces to lead Arkansas Tech University to a 25-15, 25-21, 30-28 victory over Oklahoma Baptist on Friday in Russellvil­le.

Emily Acker had 44 assists and Meredith Darnell had a teamhigh 20 digs for the Golden Suns (14-8, 7-3). Mikayla Watson had 15 kills, Kelsi Chavez had 15 assists and Hayden Blair added 31 assists for Oklahoma Baptist (13-13, 6-4).

Henderson State loses at home

Henderson State suffered only its second home loss of the season Friday after being swept 25-22, 25-17, 25-19 by Southweste­rn Oklahoma State in Arkadelphi­a.

Courtney Bolf had 16 digs and 12 kills, both team highs, while Abby Blackburn added 14 assists and 11 digs for Henderson State (19-4, 8-2). Kaitlyn Dillon had a match-high 25 digs, Allie Hoang had 39 assists, and Elizabeth McVicker and Emily Holm had 11 kills each for Southweste­rn Oklahoma State (16-4, 9-1).

Hendrix swept on the road

Lauren Dwyer and Brianna Kelly had seven kills each Friday, but it wasn’t enough as Hendrix College was swept 25-19, 25-15, 25-22 by Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga.

Jeanette McGrath had 16 digs, Amber Melcher had 15 assists and Mallory Carty added 3 blocks for the Warriors (15-5, 8-3 Southern Athletic Associatio­n). Carson VanCampen had a matchhigh 12 kills and 7 blocks for the Vikings (16-2, 11-0).
