■ Christopher Boyette, a Washington, D.C., firefighter, credited the teamwork of three women who performed CPR and used an external defibrillator to save a 75-year-old man who collapsed at a polling place.
■ Kim Davis, the Rowan County, Ky., clerk who went to jail in 2015 for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the U.S. Constitution guarantees the couples the right to marry, lost her bid for a second term.
■ Austin Clay, 24, of Glendale, Calif., convicted of vandalism for using an ax to smash President Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in July, was sentenced to three years of probation, ordered to get psychological counseling and to pay $9,400 in restitution.
■ Lesia Romanov, a Democrat running for a seat in Nevada’s Legislature, lost to Republican Dennis Hof, a brothel owner and reality TV star who was found dead Oct. 16 after a weekend of parties celebrating his 72nd birthday.
■ Stephanie Hamrick, 28, of Staunton, Va., accused of giving her three children, ages 7, 11, and 14, marijuana, pleaded guilty to child neglect and drug charges, and was sentenced to 10 days in jail and four years of probation, prosecutors said.
■ Steve West of Kansas City, Mo., a Republican General Assembly candidate whose son and daughter urged people not to vote for him because of his racist and homophobic views, lost his election to incumbent Democrat Rep. Jon Carpenter.
■ Monica Sparks, a Democrat, won her race Tuesday to become a member of the Kent County, Mich., board of commissioners, while her twin sister, Republican Jessica Ann Tyson, lost her bid for a seat on the same board representing different Grand Rapids-area districts.
■ Blaine Busker, 41, and his wife, Donella, 38, both of Emerson, Neb., who are accused of child abuse for locking cupboards and a refrigerator to keep their 14- and 15-year-old sons from eating snacks, and for limiting the boys’ showers and clothes washing, each pleaded no contest to misdemeanor child abuse.
■ Brandon Hatfield, 23, was arrested after being bitten by a 9-foot crocodile, injuring his left leg and foot, when he broke into an alligator farm in St. Augustine, Fla., and was caught on security video jumping into a pond infested with the reptiles, police said.
