Governor’s road funding proposal
Gov. Asa Hutchinson on Monday announced tax and fee increases and a revenue infusion that would provide $300 million for state highways plus another $114 million for city and county road programs.
The first part of the plan requires the Legislature to pass bills that would raise motor fuels taxes, increase the license fee for hybrid and electric vehicles, and use casino tax revenue and restricted reserve funding.
In the second part of the plan, the Legislature would refer to voters the question of making permanent a half-cent sales tax that generates money for state, city and county roads.
