Little Hats, Big Hearts
Tiffany Stewart (above photo) of Lead Hill holds her newborn daughter, Lillian, on Monday at Northwest Medical CenterWillow Creek Women’s Hospital in Johnson while executive director of the American Heart Association NWA Serena Munns stands by with a new red cap for Lillian. (Right photo) Lillian tries on her new hat. Lillian was born Dec. 8 and weighed only 1.6 pounds. This month, area hospitals are providing red knit caps to newborns and their families. The caps are thanks to the American Heart Association’s Little Hats, Big Hearts program, which brings attention to healthy hearts during February, which is American Heart Month. The caps also raise awareness for congenital heart defects, or CHDs. Volunteer knitters and knitting groups from across Northwest Arkansas provided the crochet and knit caps in quantities ranging from two to several hundred.
