Arkansas spring game set for ESPNU

ESPNU will televise the University of Arkansas’ annual RedWhite spring game on April 6, at Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayettevil­le. The game will kick off at 3 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN.com and the ESPN app. The game is open to the public and admission is free.

Arkansas in second place

The University of Arkansas is in second place, trailing Kent State by five strokes going into today’s final round at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

Kent State, which trailed Arkansas by three strokes after Sunday’s first round, shot a 288 in the second round for a 36-hole total of 580. Arkansas, which shot a 289 in the first round, shot a 296 in the second for a 585. Purdue and East Carolina are tied for third with a 588.

Arkansas’ Dylan Kim, Kaylee Benton and Maria Fassi are tied for fourth with a 144. Kim shot a 75 in the second round, while Benton and Fassi each shot a 73.

The tournament resumes today with the final round.

SOFTBALL

GAC announces players of the week Briley Feringa of Harding University was named the Great American Conference Player of the Week, while her teammate Hanna Jones was named the league’s freshman of the week. Southern Arkansas University’s Victoria Taylor was named pitcher of the week.

Feringa had eight hits and hit .533 in leading the Lady Bisons to a 4-1 record at the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic.

Jones hit .357 in five games and had a three-run home run against North Georgia and a RBI double in a 8-5 victory over St. Leo.

Taylor picked up two of Southern Arkansas’ three victories. She struck out 11 against Valdosta State and had a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts against West Georgia. She struck out seven in four innings in a 13-1 victory against St. Leo.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Former ASU player signs pro contract Former Arkansas State University player Taylor Schneider has signed a profession­al contract with Alamein FC of the Victorian Women’s National Premier League in Australia. Schneider is the first player in program history to sign with the profession­al league in Australia.

Schneider finished her career at Arkansas State with 8 goals in 48 matches with 3 assists and 19 points. Her best season came in 2016 when she scored four goals and added two assists as she helped lead the Red Wolves to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and was also named the league’s newcomer of the year.
