ASU blows out Stephen F. Austin

Kyle MacDonald went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored to lead Arkansas State University (1-1) to a 11-2 victory over Stephen F. Austin (1-1) in Nacogdoche­s, Texas.

The Red Wolves had 11 hits including 4 home runs among 8 extra-base hits in the victory. Alex Howard, Eli Davis and Andrew Leggo also had home runs for the Red Wolves. McDonald, Howard and Jaylon Deshazier had doubles in the victory. Howard and DeShazier each had two hits.

Coates Chandler allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings for the Red Wolves.

UALR goes down to Creighton

Creighton (2-0) had 9 hits and took advantage of 7 walks from 6 pitchers from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (0-2) to beat the Trojans 13-8 on Saturday at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock.

Jared Wegner led the Blue Jays by going 1 for 3 with a grand slam in the fifth inning. Jason Allbery went 2 for 4 and scored 2 runs. Jake Holton went 0 for 2, but walked three times, which led to three runs.

The Blue Jays led 12-2 in the fifth inning before UALR scored five times in the bottom of the fifth inning with Riley Pittman hitting a three-run home run and Trace Jordan hitting a two-run double.

UCA falls short against Bradley

Bradley (2-0) jumped out to a 4-1 lead and held on for a 4-3 victory over the University of Central Arkansas (0-2) on Saturday at Bear Stadium in Conway.

Bradley’s Luke Shadid hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning that put the Braves ahead 4-1. Central Arkansas closed to 4-2 in the fifth when Marco Navarro reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Cole Fiori and Tyler Smith singled to score Joshmar Doran.

Jed Moscot (1-0) picked up the victory, pitching 2 / scoreless 3 innings in relief. Ty Callahan (0-1) took the loss for the Bears, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits in 4 innings.

SOFTBALL Arkansas beats Sacramento State

Katie Warrick led the University of Arkansas (8-1) by going 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI in an 8-2 victory over Sacramento State (3-4) in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on Saturday.

Ashley Diaz went 2 for 4 and scored 1 run. The Razorbacks scored three runs in the fourth and sixth innings to turn around a 2-1 deficit.

Mary Haff (5-1) allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 4 innings for the victory while Autumn Storms pitched the last three innings.

MEN’S BASKETBALL UAM blows out Arkansas Tech

Austin Hardy scored 20 points to lead the University of Arkansas at Monticello to an 88-69 victory over Arkansas Tech University in Russellvil­le.

Jordan Embry added 17 points and 3 rebounds for the Boll Weevils (15-9, 11-7 Great American Conference), Kwame McBean added 14 points and 4 rebounds, Marcus Gilbert had 12 points and Keelin Jackson made 11 points and 6 rebounds.

The Boll Weevils shot 55.6 percent (35 of 63) from the floor, outrebound­ed the Wonder Boys 33-26 and had 12 turnovers to Arkansas Tech’s 19, leading to a 28-11 advantage in points off turnovers.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL Lampo leads Harding

Kellie Lampo of Harding University scored 39 points and had 12 rebounds in leading the Lady Bisons (18-6, 13-5 Great American Conference) to a 87-72 victory over Henderson State University (17-7, 12-6) in Searcy.

Lampo shot 136 of 25 from the floor and made 7 off 11 free throws while playing 39 minutes. Cheyenne Brown finished with 19 points and 7 rebounds and Kennedy Cooper had 12 points in the victory.

The Lady Bisons shot 33 of 59 (55.9 percent) from the floor, including 4 of 8 three-pointers and shot 17 of 26 free throws. They outrebound­ed Henderson State 48-35 and won despite committing 16 turnovers to Henderson State’s eight, but did outscore the Lady Reddies 18-7 in points off turnovers.

Pink Jones led Henderson State with 22 points and 4 rebounds. Blu Jones had 13 points and 3 rebounds, and Hailey Estes had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

In other games involving state Division II teams, Alvia Huell scored 18 points and had 4 rebounds to lead Ouachita Baptist University (7-17, 5-13) to a 63-59 victory over Southern Arkansas University in Arkadelphi­a. Madison Brittain added 15 points and 5 rebounds and Majia Gerstone had 13 points for the Lady Tigers. Arianna Guinn led Southern Arkansas (2-22, 1-17) with 15 points. … Jacie Higgins led Arkansas Tech University (11-13, 8-10) with 19 points and 5 rebounds in a 82-59 victory over the University of Arkansas at Monticello in Russellvil­le. Hannah Villines had 16 points and 6 rebounds and Jayana Sanders had 13 points and 4 rebounds. Mackenzie Johnson led Arkansas-Monticello (6-17, 5-13) with 21 points and 8 rebounds.

PREP BOWLING Maxwell, Eichler win state bowling titles

Rogers Heritage’s Hunter Maxwell and Bentonvill­e High’s Kynzi Eichler each claimed Class 6A individual state bowling titles on Friday.

Maxwell won the boys’ title, totaling 649 over three games, edging Fort Smith Southside’s Colby Harger’s 630. Eichler finished with 675 to easily outdistanc­e Lady Tigers’ teammate Lindsey Gann, who finished second with 587, to win the girls’ title.

Fort Smith Southside won the boys’ title with 3,952, followed by Bentonvill­e with 3811 and Rogers Heritage third. Cabot earned the girls’ team title with 3647, followed by Bentonvill­e at 3575 and Rogers Heritage third.
