BELLA VISTA — Marcia

Catherine Oliver, 66, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Thursday, March 7, 2019, at the Circle of Life Hospice Home in Springdale, Ark.. Marcie was born June 19, 1952, in Chicago, Ill., to Robert S. and Virginia H. (Muench) Oliver.

Marcie was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Steve Oliver.

She is survived by her sister, Cindy and brother-inlaw, David Mustain of Anderson, Mo.; niece Christa and husband Eric Waters; three great-nieces, Skyler, Ava and Brooke of Fayettevil­le, Ark. Marcie was a 1970 graduate of Rogers High School and the University of Arkansas in 1974. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, a maid in the U of A homecoming court and first runner-up in the Miss Arkansas Pageant representi­ng the city of Rogers, Ark. Marcie began her career as a sales representa­tive for Joe Skinner Sales in the Dallas Apparel Mart. In 1988 she bought the business and continued as Marcia Oliver Sales Inc. until her retirement and move to Bella Vista, Ark. in 2005.

Marcie’s two great passions in life were gardening, especially the planting of flowers for friends and family, and taking care of her beloved dogs Molly and Cricket.

A celebratio­n of Marcie’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E Lancashire Blvd, in Bella Vista Ark. 72714.

BELLA VISTA — Barbara

Dean Reese, 89, of Bella Vista, Ark., passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Circle of Life-Legacy Village in Bentonvill­e, Ark. She was born March 15, 1930, in Webb City, Mo., to Birl Belgium Bennett and Edith Weaver.

Barbara was a homemaker, farmer, beautician, seamstress and artist. She taught art and authored a book on art. She, and her husband of 49 years, Fred H. Reese, enjoyed golf, traveling and helping with many charities. Barbara attended Bella Vista Assembly of God Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Reese, Junior; two brothers, Richard Damron and Donald Damron; two stepsons, Bobby and Danny Reese.

She is survived by three children, Deboarah Lynn Johnson (Wayne), Roger Clayton Wardlaw (Michelle) and Freda Jenee Wardlaw; three stepchildr­en, Janet Risch, David Reese and Fred Reese III; 14 grandchild­ren and many great-grandchild­ren; two sisters, Audrey Mattney and Patricia Barker.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019, at 1 p.m. in the Bella Vista Assembly of God Church, a gathering of friends and family will be held from 12:30 p.m. till 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Daniels Cemetery in Gravette, Ark.

Pauline Goodrich, 98, of Bentonvill­e passed away June 14, 2019. Born Dec. 23, 1920, in

Selby, Yorkshire, England, to Arthur and Hilda Newbould Williams. Preceded in death by her husband, Paul and her son Brian.

Virginia Martin, 80, of Bentonvill­e, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019, in Bentonvill­e. She was born Aug. 5, 1938, in Linden, Tenn., to Hollis and Amy Rogers Ary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.

Virginia retired from Walmart after 25 years of service. In her earlier years, she enjoyed fishing, family gatherings and get-togethers. She made many friends along the way.

She is survived by a daughter, Rose Zajicek and husband, Ben of Fayettevil­le; a son, Jeff Lowery and wife, Jannie of Barton, Ark.; two stepdaught­ers, Barbara Robichaux and Ginger-Martin Foreman; three grandchild­ren, Nathan White and wife, Michelle, Emily White and Nikki May; and seven great-grandchild­ren, Vivian, Keagan, Graham, Tre, Isaiah, Noah and Hudson; and her beloved dog, Ava.

Ronald Ward Curry, age 90, of Fayettevil­le passed Friday, June 14, 2019, in Fayettevil­le. He was born April 26, 1929, in Fayettevil­le, the son of Garlen and Eutha Weir Curry. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Steven Curry.

Ronald was born and lived his entire life in Fayettevil­le, except for his time in the Navy. Ronald is a direct lineal descendant of James E. Curry, a Sergeant in the Illinois infantry during the Civil War. While fighting in this area, James loved how beautiful it was and moved his family to Fayettevil­le after the war. Ronald grew up in the Mount Comfort Presbyteri­an congregati­on with the 10 children of Earl and Rachel Mae Weir, his grandparen­ts. He graduated from Peabody High School at the University of Arkansas and was the class president. He owned and operated Curry’s Radio & T.V. Service for over 35 years. He had an unparallel­ed reputation for service and integrity. In his retirement he regularly communicat­ed with his large extended family and was considered the family patriarch by all.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Adams Curry; five sons, Brice Curry of Fayettevil­le, Garlen Curry of Mountain Home, Ark., Craig Curry of Austin, Texas, Kevin Curry of Rhinebeck, N.Y., and Ron Curry of Fayettevil­le; a sister, Gayle Bader of Tulsa, Okla.; 10 grandchild­ren and 11 great-grandchild­ren.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Vance

N. (Noel) Elder, age 95, of Fayettevil­le, Ark., passed away June 11, 2019. He was born in Hutchinson, Kan., on Dec. 25, 1923, to Tom and Mae Shaw Elder.

Vance graduated from the University of Kansas with a Profession­al Engineerin­g degree.

Mr. Elder was the owner of ABC Plumbing and Heating of Springdale and the founder of Multicraft Contractor which he owned and operated for many years later selling it to his employees. He served on several Boards at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Springdale and was involved in the constructi­on of St. Thomas. Vance was an Original Charter Member of Trout’s Unlimited in Northwest Arkansas. Mr. Elder was one of the pilots of the 507 Fighter Group during WWII. This was the only P-47 flight group in the Pacific to be honored with the Distinguis­hed Unit Citation.

Vance was preceded in death by his parents as well as his first wife, Jean Elder and second wife, Kathryn Tippet Elder.

Mr. Elder is survived by his wife, Onita Copeland Elder; and children: Cynthia Pecarovich, Nancy Schwan, Tom Elder, Rick Elder and Vance R. Elder. He also leaves nine grandchild­ren, 14 great-grandchild­ren and two great-great-grandchild­ren.

A Celebratio­n of Life will be Saturday, June 22, 2019, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Springdale.

FAYETTEVIL­LE — Jack

Shannon Mathis of Fayettevil­le passed away on June 13, 2019, in his home at 89 years of age.

Jack Shannon was born on Dec. 29, 1929, in Plainview, Ark. His family moved in his early years to South Sebastian County, Ark., where he was raised helping his father on their farm. He graduated from Hartford High School. Upon graduation, Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force serving for approximat­ely six years during the Korean War.

After leaving the military, he attended the University of Arkansas where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education and then later a Master’s Degree in Education. He then began his lifelong career as an educator. He taught in Mansfield, Ark., and later at Fayettevil­le High School East Campus before becoming the Principal for Sequoyah Polytechni­c School/Fayettevil­le High School West Campus Vocational Technical School.

It was during his 20 years of serving as Principal of West Campus that Jack made an indelible mark on the lives of many who attended the school. Under his leadership, the school, which served 17 school districts, offered training in many fields including culinary arts, building trades, auto mechanics, auto body, horticultu­re, electronic­s, computer training, printing, drafting, welding, cosmetolog­y, dental assistance and medical profession­s education.

In order to help the students of West Campus complete their studies, Jack implemente­d many forward-thinking programs. By working with area dentists, West Campus was able to offer free dental care to the students of the school. By partnering with then Arkansas First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, Jack was able to secure grants to operate a day care center at West Campus so that young mothers could further their education and opportunit­ies.

Upon retirement, Jack devoted time to serving others through his involvemen­t in civic organizati­ons and his church. He was active in the Lions Club. He was able to travel to Europe in service of the local Kiwanis group. He was extremely proud of his tenure as the President of Habitat for Humanity of Washington County. Jack also took many church-related mission trips.

Jack believed in lifelong education. He was able to combine his love of travel and learning by taking many “Road Scholar” trips throughout the years. He also utilized the resources of the Great Courses learning program up through the last years of his life. He single-handedly attempted to keep the print business alive and thriving by subscribin­g to magazines including, but certainly not limited to, the Oxford American, Smithsonia­n Magazine, Texas Monthly, Rolling Stone, Field & Stream and Popular Mechanics.

Most importantl­y, Jack embarked on a final career as a grandfathe­r which was certainly a very rewarding one. As Gramps/Paps, Jack was always there for his seven grandchild­ren. He attended their sporting events, took them to school, built playhouses for them, and stayed with them during periods of illnesses along with teaching them the importance of giving to others.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John Shannon Mathis and Clara Mae Watson Mathis; his sister, Sarah Nadine Sullivant; his brother, Marion Thomas Mathis; and his daughter-in-law, Padma “Mani” Mathis.

Jack is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mimi Mathis; and his three sons, Sean (wife - Chrystal) of Richardson, Texas, Shannon (wife - Cincy) and Shea, both of Fayettevil­le, Ark. Jack’s seven grandchild­ren are Sarah Grace Mathis, Lillian Webb Mathis and Brooks Clayborn Mathis of Richardson, Texas, and Clara Elise Mathis, Frances Marie Mathis, Chloe Susannah Mathis and Simon Graham Mathis of Fayettevil­le, Ark. He is further survived by his sister, Susie Hunt of Mansfield, Ark.; along with 19 nieces and nephews.

Jack stated that his greatest achievemen­t was raising his three sons with his wife, Mimi.

Jack will be interred at Fayettevil­le National Cemetery, 700 S. Government Ave. in Fayettevil­le, at a service on Tuesday, June 18, at 11 a.m.

LINCOLN — Bill

Yancey, 85, passed away peacefully June 14, 2019, in Fayettevil­le, Ark. Bill was born in Arkadelphi­a, Ark., May 3, 1934, to Halley and Bertha Magdaline Fendley Yancey. His parents, five brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Bill was the owner of Yancey Realty. He and his family moved to Prairie Grove, Ark., in 1968. He became involved in numerous activities and support for the town of Prairie Grove. As a Realtor and developer, he built several housing additions in the community and other locations in Northwest Arkansas. He supported the town’s schools and enjoyed attending sporting events. He was a member of the local Chamber of Commerce.

Yancey became a proud supporter of the Republican Party. His office displayed signed photograph­s of President Reagan. In the 1990s he entered community service and served numerous terms on Washington County Quorum Court. He took pride in his knowledge of the country’s constituti­on. He enjoyed reading western novels, riding horses, taking care of his cattle, a good cup of coffee, homemade pecan pie and watching the Razorbacks (win).

One highlight of Bill’s life was being able to accompany his son on the USS Ranger from Vancouver, BC to San Diego, Calif. While on the aircraft carrier he saw complete carrier operations including an air show performed by the carrier air wing. He was able to see his son’s last carrier landing. However, Bill never liked water. He became seasick before the anchor was raised. Lucky a Navy doctor was passing out a patch to be worn behind the ear which prevented sickness. He enjoyed the 10 days at sea.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Katherine (Kit) of Lincoln; two sisters, Virginia Walker of Farmington and Marylin Runyan of Arkadelphi­a; one stepson, Chris Marion of Lincoln. He has six grandchild­ren, eight great-grandchild­ren, one great-great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews. His three children from his first marriage to Betty Dearing are Sandi Wyatt and husband John, Karen Cunningham and husband Ron both of Prairie Grove, Ark., and a son, Captain Bill Yancey, (USN-RET) and wife Donna of Prairie Grove.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Luginbuel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2019, 10 a.m. at the Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove. Interment will be in the Dutch Mills Cemetery. Graveside services will not be held at the cemetery.

ROGERS — Branimir Bakalic, age 71, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019, in Fayettevil­le, Ark. He was born on March 22, 1948, in Belgrade, Serbia, to Jovan and Kathryn Bakalic.

Bane came to the U.S. in 1972 and met Barbara in 1977. They were married in 1979. He owned a screen print business in NYC for many years and did commercial art and illustrate­d children’s books. He was a passionate sportsman and enjoyed country living upstate New York as it reminded him of his families’ home in Bosnia growing up. He loved to joke and tell stories, and there were a lot of stories. He was a good friend and loved his family deeply.

He is preceded in death by both parents; brother, Misa Avramovic; and a sister, Mira Avramovic.

He is survived by his wife; son, Scot Fisher of Tallahasse, Fla.; daughter, Briana and Jason Kohlbrenne­r of Syracuse, N.Y.; brother, Nicola and Jasmina Bakalic of Belgrade, Serbia; grandchild­ren, Codie Fisher and Lyra Kohlbrenne­r; great-granddaugh­ter, Natali; and many nieces and nephews.

ROGERS — Louis

Cleveland Bishop Jr., 76, of Rogers passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Oct. 31, 1942, to the late Ruth Alberta Ward Bishop and Lewis Cleveland Bishop Sr. Mr. Bishop was also preceded by his sister, Patricia Reeves.

For several years he owned and operated Ark-Mo Services in Springdale, a sheet metal fabricatio­n firm, from which he retired. Louis enjoyed hunting, traveling, time logged as a private pilot; but loved the time shared with his family.

For nearly 60 years he was the loving husband of his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Dawn Medlin Bishop, who survives. Other survivors include his sons, Michael Bishop (Teri) of Springdale, Jeffrey Bishop and Louis Bishop III both of Rogers; seven grandchild­ren; three great-grandchild­ren; numerous extended family members, business associates and dear friends.

Services will be Wednesday, June 19, 2019, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and his memorial service at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers.

ROGERS — David Jordan, 40 of Rogers, passed away at his home June 11, 2019. He was born July 2, 1978, in Little Rock, Ark., the son of Lynn and Kathy Boyd Jordan.

He worked for the family business, Eagle Permaco.

David is survived by his parents; one daughter, Kiana Jordan; brother, Lindsey Jordan; one grandchild, Elena; grandmothe­rs, Nancy Jordan and Mary Jo Marshall.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparen­ts, William T. and Kathryn (Jones) Boyd; uncles, Richard and Patrick Boyd; and paternal grandfathe­r, L. B. Jordan.

David loved very deeply and was very excited to be a new grand-fahjah. He enjoyed rock crawling and building that next Jeep. He was funny and loved a good prank. He touched many people and will be missed.

David hated funerals, so we will be celebratin­g his life with a BBQ and party on Sunday, June 23, at 1 p.m., Monte Ne RV Park Community Center, 15039 E. Hwy 94, Rogers, Ark. Please come and bring your pictures and stories of him.

SILOAM SPRINGS — Charles Harvey Stinnett, M.D., died June 14, 2019, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Ark. A resident of Siloam Springs, he was the son of Richard and Irene Stinnett and had one older brother, Carl (now deceased). Charles was born Feb. 26, 1934, and grew up in Horatio, Ark.

He played linebacker for the Horatio Lions. He first attended the University of Arkansas in 1952 for agricultur­e, but with encouragem­ent from Dr. Dickinson, his hometown doctor, and Fred Sharp, the pharmacist he worked for in high school, he switched to pre-med. He was admitted to the University of Arkansas College of Medicine in February 1955 during his junior year.

Charles met Barbara at a dinner for incoming medical school freshman at Mary Maestri’s. The two married in 1956 at Barbara’s parents’ farmhouse in Bloomer, Ark. (near Charleston). After graduating from medical school in 1958, their first son, Scott, was born in 1959. Charles completed residency in 1961 and joined Drs. Huskins and Puckett in Siloam Springs, Ark. Charles and Barbara’s second son, Steve, was born in 1961.

Charles practiced medicine in Siloam Springs for 44 years. He could not have done it without Barbara’s unwavering support. It is estimated that he delivered over 1,500

babies, and he considered each and every one of his patients a part of his family. He had two nurses over the period, Willie Elliot and Connie Carter, who worked for him for nine years and 35 years respective­ly. He was incredibly grateful for their help. Charles was a member of the National Guard from 1960 to 1968. He and Barbara traveled to 49 states.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his sons, Scott (Kelley) and Steve (Cindy), and his grandchild­ren, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Corbin, Bailey, Matt and Jordan. He inspired some of his children and grandchild­ren to enter medicine and the medical field—following in his footsteps.

In later years, Charles immensely enjoyed seeing and keeping up with his patients — near and far — as he exercised or drove his always spotless car around town. They were excited to see him and all had wonderful stories to share. He loved to attend the annual scholarshi­p night at Siloam Springs High School to see his patients graduate and embark on new adventures.

SILOAM SPRINGS — Montie Vest Jr., 93-year-old resident of Siloam Springs, Ark., died on June 14, 2019, in Siloam Springs. He was born on July 27, 1925, in Charleston, Ark., he was the son of Montie Paul Vest, Sr. and Ossie Mae Edwards Vest. Montie was drafted before the start of his senior year in high school and served in the United States Army. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in Europe. After returning from Europe, Montie went back and finished his senior year of high school. He married Gwendolyn Brown on June 4, 1948, in Branch, Ark. Montie went to Draughon’s Business School in Fort Smith, Ark., and graduated with a degree in Accounting. They moved to Siloam Springs and he went to work with Pet Milk for over 20 years. He then worked as the administra­tor for Woodland Manor Nursing Home in Siloam Springs for 32 years. Montie was a member of First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs, served on the Board of Directors for Genesis House and was a member of the Siloam Springs Lions Club for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gwen; two brothers; and two sisters.

SPRINGDALE — Larry Briggs, 63, of Springdale passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at Westwood Health and Rehab. He was born May 20, 1956.

SPRINGDALE — Virginia A. Cox Markley, age 83, of Springdale, Ark., went to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on June 14, 2019, at home. She was born Jan. 13, 1936, in Hobart, Okla., the daughter of the late Thurman and Ovie Cox.

She was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers but above all she loved her family and friends. She married Kenneth Markley on Jan. 7, 1955, in Louisville, Ill.

She was preceded in death by two brothers; one sister; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and one daughterin-law.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Markley, of 64 years, of the home; two sons, Dale Markley and wife, Joyce, and Kyle Markley, both of Springdale, Ark.; one daughter, Cheri Wright and husband, Brian, of Branson, Mo.; three sisters, Nadine Cox, Marie (Ralph) Dennis, Erma (Jack) Keele; three brothers, John Cox, Delbert Cox and Vernon (Ruth) Cox; one brother-in-law, John Markley; nine grandchild­ren; 14 great grandchild­ren; 10 great-great-grandchild­ren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

SPRINGDALE — Lester McClure, 73, of Springdale, Ark., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, June 13, 2019. Lester is preceded in death by his parents Roe and Faye McClure.

He is survived by his wife, Lynne McClure of the home; three children, Tammy McClure Harris and husband Arvil of Bentonvill­e, Justin McClure of Fayettevil­le, and Douglas McClure of Springdale; three grandchild­ren, Dustin Harris of Bentonvill­e, Jaxon McClure of Springdale and Chandlyr McClure of Springdale; four siblings, Barbara Carson of Springdale, Lonnie McClure and wife DeeAnn of Elm Springs, Rita Easter of Fayettevil­le and Sharron McDonald and husband Garrie.

He was a good husband, father, grandfathe­r, friend and brother as well as a devoted Christian and loved the Lord. He will be greatly missed but he is now reunited with family that has gone on before him and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A memorial service will be held June 29, 2019, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church Cave Springs, Ark.

SPRINGDALE — Frances Aileen Millsap, 95, of Springdale, Ark., formerly of Siloam Springs and Hot Springs, passed away Friday, June 7, 2019, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. She was born March 2, 1924, in Paola, Kan., the daughter of Henry and Maxine Bayles Harrison.

She moved with her parents to Siloam Springs when she was 4 years old.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Hal Millsap Jr.; her second husband, Tom Longfellow; and her brother, Tom Harrison.

She is survived by her brothers, Steve Harrison and Hank Harrison and Hank’s wife Cheryl, all of Siloam Springs; her three children, Hal and Jan Millsap of Springdale, Rosemary and Ken Steele of Buzzards Bay, Mass., and Holly and Michael Ezell of Weddington Community, Ark,; eight grandchild­ren, Tracy Steelman of Aiken, S.C.; Amy Matayo and husband Doug of Springdale; Emily Mincks and husband Andrew of Rogers; Melissa Chesnut of Loveland, Colo.; Shannon Ogden and wife Victoria of Littleton, Colo.; Michael Ogden and wife Shona of Austin, Texas, Nathan Ezell and wife Rebekah Falkner of Austin, Texas, and Rachel Ezell and husband Michael O’Keefe of Duxbury, Mass.; step-grandson Jonathan Steel of Warrenton, Virginia; 23 great-grandchild­ren; two great-great-grandchild­ren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Siloam Springs and attended First Christian Church of Hot Springs. She was an avid reader, a published author, loved to write poetry and play the piano, taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and was in many clubs.

She was an active member of PEO over 50 years and served as President.

Memorial service will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Chapel in Siloam Springs on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at 2 p.m.
