■ John Frey, a World War II veteran who lives in Utah, received over 5,000 cards from people in all 50 states and at least 12 countries for his 101st birthday after his family put out a request for 101 cards to celebrate the occasion.

■ Stephen Bratton, 43, a former Southern Baptist pastor at a church near Houston, was arrested on child sex-abuse charges and accused of repeatedly molesting a teenage relative over the course of two years after reportedly telling his wife about the abuse, according to court documents.

■ William Jones Jr., 46, a former Louisiana police sergeant who was fired from the department that polices the 24-mile Lake Pontchartr­ain Causeway, was sentenced to four years in prison after authoritie­s said he stole cocaine, $6,300 in cash and two guns from the evidence room he supervised.

■ Nancy Bucciarell­i, 66, was arrested on a misdemeano­r animal-cruelty charge after police said she pushed her 11-year-old golden retreiver off a dock into a lake in Merrimack, N.H., and watched as the dog drowned despite witnesses’ attempts to help the animal.

■ Paul LePage, the former Republican governor of Maine, will spend the summer working as a bartender at a restaurant in Boothbay Harbor along with his wife, Ann, who will be working as a server at the establishm­ent, according to the restaurant’s owner.

■ Douala Hashi, 31, of Washington, D.C., faces menacing and other charges after authoritie­s said the man, who had a broken bottle, set off a fire extinguish­er in a building where Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has one of her district offices.

■ Alex Madriaga, a veterinari­an in Buena Park, Calif., pleaded guilty in what federal prosecutor­s say was a plan to illegally export exotic birds from New Orleans to Taiwan and admitted he signed a certificat­e that falsely stated the birds had been quarantine­d in Louisiana for 21 days.

■ Jillanne Pagano, 25, faces a felony child-abduction charge and was arrested in North Carolina after authoritie­s said she was seen leaving a home with her 5-year-old daughter, who was reported missing as a baby from Rocheport, Mo.

■ Radmilo Samardzio, 70, who was driving a semitraile­r on an Indiana interstate, had pulled over and put his hazard lights on when his vehicle was struck by another semitraile­r, police said, resulting in a crash that scattered cocoa powder and lithium batteries across the freeway.
