FAYETTEVILLE — James Robert Wallis Sr., age 96, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born Nov. 14, 1922, in Loveland, Okla., to Houston and Lela Childers Wallis.
He was preceded in death by his wife Libby, brothers Lowell and Houston Wallis and beloved son-in-law Jack Pruniski.
After graduating from Shawnee High School in 1943, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Hodges on June 10, 1944, in Washington, D.C. He and Libby were happily married for 70 years.
After high school graduation, Jim enlisted in the Army Air Corps and attended flight school at Texas A&M. His World War II service was a source of pride for the rest of his life. He was stationed in the U.S., The Philippines and occupied Japan, working in aviation and as a radar mechanic instructor.
Later he worked as a district sales representative for Conoco and then as a salesman and sales manager in the heavy machinery business for over 30 years in both Oklahoma and Arkansas. He was an election poll worker volunteer for many years in Little Rock and Bella Vista and a volunteer tax counselor for the elderly for 16 years. Jim grew up as a Baptist and later joined the Methodist Church, where he was active for many years.
He is survived by his son, Jim Jr. and wife Cathy of Olympia, Wash.; daughters Mary Jane Pruniski of Little Rock and Luann Horn and husband Mike of Fayetteville, Ark.; grandchildren Brian Pruniski and wife Julie, Carrie Taylor and husband Jeff, Elizabeth Barlow, Jeff Pruniski, Tom
Wallis, Heath Horn, and Tanner Horn and wife Abby; great-grandchildren Noah and Reid Pruniski, Ellie and Juliet Taylor, Kaleigh Barlow and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jim had a strong faith, loved his family and adored his many friends at Grand Village and Arkanshire retirement communities. He courageously fought cancer for nearly seven years and continued to lead an active life.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, at Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville with Bill Seeger and Dr. Jack Wilson officiating. SPRINGDALE — Retired Cmdr. William E. Berrie, USNR, 88, peacefully passed away Aug. 21, 2019, in Springdale, Ark.
Bill, as he was known to family and friends, was predeceased in life by wife Madeline P. Berrie, parents Merle and Mary Berrie, sister Kitty Kirch and brother Buddy Berrie.
Bill is survived by wife Marie R. Berrie, two sisters, five children, three step-children, 19 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. After 28 years of service to our country, Bill continued to fly, and was an avid reader. Loved by all, Pops will be missed, and never forgotten.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, at the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home, 3926 Willowood Ave., Springdale, Ark. He will also have a visitation Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, at 9 a.m. with mass to follow at St. Louis Catholic Church, Memphis, Tenn. WICKES — Suellen Sullivan, age 77, of Wickes, Ark., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, in Fort Smith, Ark. She was born Nov. 11, 1941, in Rogers, Ark., to the late Richard and Hazel Rice Bright.
Suellen was married for 30 years to the late Harrison Sullivan. She was a member of the Wickes Nazarene Church and dearly loved the people. Suellen loved to sew and work in her yard. One of her passions was to cook and visit friends and families, when they couldn’t get out.
Above all she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they were her pride and joy. Suellen was a wonderful and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by all.
She is survived by daughters DeLynn and Spanky Hale of Highfill, Ark., and SheriLe and Thomas James of Wickes, Ark.; grandchildren Karilynn and Pete Winters of Farmington, Ark., Kristin and Sohn Morris of Pea Ridge, Ark., and Bo and Mandi James of Wickes, Ark.; great-grandchildren Gavin and Ean Shadden, Riley Morris, Jayli and Logan James, Cooper, Zac, and Brooke Winters; sister Elizabeth Bright-See; nephew Christopher See; and niece Melissa Gardner. He is also survived by extended family: The families of Bridgett Martin, Harley Sullivan, Jess Sullivan, Marion Sullivan, Yvonne Kohn and Bill Sullivan; special friends Sarah Gorden and Delwin Reed; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by parents Richard and Hazel Bright, husband Harrison Sullivan and brother Phillip Bright.
Funeral service will be Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Wickes Church of the Nazarene in Wickes, Ark., with Brother Jon Newlin officiating. Interment will follow in Baker Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood
Funeral Home of Mena.
Pallbearers are Cody Speight, Joe Miller, John Cody Sullivan, Eric Sullivan, Seth Watkins, Cody Wilson, Jason Sullivan and Montana Speight. Honorary pallbearers are Loren Jenkins, Elijah Sullivan, Pete Winters, Ty Sullivan, Sohn Morris, Zac Counts and Ben Counts.
BOLIVAR, Ohio — Wilma Marie Wood Pennington went to Heaven on Aug. 12, 2019, to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her husband William L. Pennington.
She was preceded in death by her parents William O. Wood and Velva Melissa Neal Wood, and her husband. She was 78 years old.
She is survived by her brother, John F. Wood, brothers and sisters-in-love, Bob and Doris Pennington, and sister-in-love Betty Nevills; nephews Steven Pennington, Wayne and Kerry Nevills, Larry and Laura Nevills; and nieces Marissa and Catherine Nevills and cousins.
She graduated from John Brown University in 1963 with a degree in business. She worked at the Department of Police Administration at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., and the Department of Human Ser- vices in Canton, Ohio.
She attended the Nazarene Church in Springdale, Ark., Southern Baptist Church in Bloomington, Ind., American Baptist Church in North Canton, Ohio, and Cathedral of Life Non-Denom- inational Church in Canton, Ohio.
