Duncan looks to run for fourth term as circuit judge

BENTONVILLE — Benton County Circuit Judge Xollie Duncan plans to seek a fourth term on the bench.

Duncan presides over Division 5 for the 19th Judicial District West.

“My work consists of jury trials and bench trials for civil cases; domestic relations cases including divorce, child custody, child support and child visitation; and probate matters including guardianships, adoptions and trusts and estates,” Duncan said.

“It is a diverse mix of cases, which I enjoy. The cases challenge me to help people find solutions to the controversies they find themselves in,” Duncan said.

Duncan, 64, who lives near Hiwasse, has served as circuit judge since her appointment by Gov. Mike Huckabee in 2000 to fill the vacancy left by the death of Judge Oliver Adams. She has been elected to three terms.

Duncan has served as the chairwoman of the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory Board and chairwoman of the Arkansas Professional Bail Bondsman Licensing Board. She was appointed by Chief Justice Jim Hannah to serve as chairwoman of the Supreme Court Board of Certified Court Reporter Examiners.

She was also appointed to sit as special justice for the Arkansas Supreme Court in 2004.

She has served on the Board of Directors for the Arkansas Judicial Council, as past president of the Benton County Bar Association and as administrative judge for 19th Judicial District West.

She is a member of the Benton County Bar Association and the Arkansas Bar Association.

Elections in Arkansas for circuit judges are nonpartisan. The 2020 election will be March 3. Runoffs will be on the general election ballot in November.

Circuit judges serve sixyear terms and are paid $168,096 a year.
