‘Swing voters’ crucial to flipping presidency

-

Trump continues to run rough shod over the Constitution, thumbing his nose at Congress, demonizing immigrants, while increasing the depth of the Washington swamp. If you’re a Forever Trumper, this is perfectly OK behavior: “Our President is working for us, wrecking bad government.”

On the other hand, if you’re a Never Trumper, you ask “Why can’t we get rid of this guy right now?”

Neither camp will be moved by any dialog/ arguments and will vote their party regardless.

So, who is key as we move toward the 2020 election? The Swing Voters — folks who are independent or Democrats who crossed over and voted for Trump. Are they now sickened by Trump’s ever-growing list of bad actions, lies, behaviors? Maybe they will be moved or disgusted enough to vote him out of office, but maybe not. Which Democratic candidate will they have to vote for — a far left or a more centrist candidate? Many folks have told me they didn’t really want Trump as president in 2016, they had serious concerns, but they couldn’t vote for Hillary under any circumstance. Will they have the same conundrum in 2020?

I believe America will be seriously damaged under four more years of Donald Trump. But swing voters must have a choice they can stomach. It’s possible the Democratic party can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The stakes are too high to be blinded by ideological purity and select an unelectable candidate. Please don’t let that happen!

America — all Americans — deserve a candidate who will truly serve more citizens than Trump does today. GREG MOORE Holiday Island
