Bashers don’t realize positives from Trump

This letter is for people like Doug Thompson, John Brummett and the many letter writers who bash Donald Trump for being hideous, a boor, a liar, a disaster as president and on and on. He is an easy target for his uncompromising, in-your-face style. All those who support him must be morons, self-deceivers or just hapless rubes who follow the rest of their Republican lemmings into the abyss.

Well, I am one of those rubes with a master’s degree in counseling psychology and was a marriage and family therapist before I moved to Arkansas from California. I couldn’t be more happy than to have left the lunatics who run California and join my fellow red state suckers who support Donald Trump.

He has done more to help this country than perhaps any other president since the middle of the last century. Let’s start with his supreme court appointments — two constitutional originalists. If he didn’t do anything else, I could kiss him on the lips for that.

But among the hundreds of accomplishments I could list (see the Washington Examiner’s piece on this), he has led an economy that has the lowest unemployment for some (people of color) ever recorded. There are more job openings than there are job seekers. Wages are up, median household income is up. Four million jobs have been added. Consumer confidence is at an 18-year high. We have a bull stock market that hit record highs 70 times in 2017. Thanks to tax breaks for all and deregulation, there has been a resurgence in manufacturing. Investment is flooding back in to the U.S. because of tax cuts. He’s doubled the standard deduction for individuals and families and doubled the child tax credit to make it easier to raise families. He’s opened up energy opportunities to make us finally self-sufficient.

He has rebuilt our military and is confronting both China and Russia with sanctions against their oligarchs and bad corporate actors. He is trying to protect us from decades of theft of our productivity and intellectual property.

He is tackling illegal immigration in a more urgent way than anyone before. This problem has been swept under the rug for decades. He moved our embassy to Jerusalem. He’s trying to reduce our military presence in areas with unwinnable wars, something the Democrats have been complaining about forever. Now that Donald is doing it, it’s suddenly shameful that we’re abandoning our allies.

It’s delusional of those on the left and those in the middle, who unknowingly follow the left as the Democrat Party, to ignore what is so plain to see for middle Americans. The left hate him for his style; they can’t bash his record.

There are 3,141 counties in the U.S. President Trump won 3,084 of them. Hillary won 57, which was enough for her to win the popular vote by 1.5 million. That should be a frightening thought for red county people. Thank God for the Electoral College. MICHAEL TOPPEN
